Well hasn't China been a superpower for a while now, even if we discount the belt and road initiative; China is exerting a lot of economic and political influence over Africa. India however has not that much external influence. France is competing with China for Africa. The UK can be said to have more friendly relations with the world rather than influence. Saudi Arabia and Iran a region locked to the Arab world but do have the potential. The EU has economic, social and the combined external influence of all member nations but its political influence over the world is debatable. I am not that knowledgable about South America but I haven't heard anything about Brazil or any other nation being able to exert itself internationally. Russia is gearing up but it seems that it isn't influencing further than it's neighbouring regions which makes it a regional power not a global one. I don't need to explain why the USA and the principality of Sealand are superpowers.

@Deol Mapping Why not? The Eu's economy is as big the US, actually bigger by some measures. The Eu has plenty of economic and political power, really the only thing it's lacking is power over the constituent countries military's, even this is changing with current events. I'm not sure if the Eu is a superpower, but it could definitely become one practically overnight. Having said that, I doubt the EU will ever have a foreign policy that is anywhere near as aggressive as the United States or the former USSR or the British Empire for that matter.

Greece, Spain, Portugal and the eastern countries are all countries that were dictatorships when the EU (the EEC) formed but now are democracies. You never know what might happen in 20 or 30 years. And Turkey is arguably democratic (in the same way Russia is, but still, a democracy is a democracy).

Not really. After the fall of the USSR, Russia, while a significant regional power in eastern Europe and the Caucuses, can't really match the US on the global scale. As for China, they are getting there, but even now they are fighting for I influence in their own back yard such as the South China Sea, with Japan, Phillipines, Taiwan, etc. effectively challenge ging their claims (with of course a good bit of backing from the US). Lastly, no country can even hold a candle to US hard (r.e. military) power projection throughout the world.

I like to see their space accomplishments as an indicator. India is putting a rover on the moon soon, China has one on the far side of the moon. The ESA has done lunar missions. Russia is currently not doing lunar missions. I think there are five major powers: The US, Russia, China, India, and the EU. Brazil is not at the same level, it's not on very good agricultural land like the others are and new agricultural techniques will have to be pioneered to get them on par, such as them learning how to use lime and phosphorus to make their savanna land soils viable enough to grow soybeans.

I think there are two real superpower and two superpower-ish. In my country (Costa Rica) the USA has always been our best friend world wide and our biggest export and import parthner, and some years ago China noticed this as well as our closeness with Taiwan and was like "Can I build you guys a stadium? @@sirBrouwer I think you are talking about Puerto Rico mi amigo, the caribbean island that the USA got from the Spanish Empire after the Spanish-American war in the XX century and is currently not a state of the USA but an uncorporated territory of the USA as you said. Costa Rica is a Central American country independent from the Spanish Empire since 1821. And as I said the USA has been our best friend for a long time now and we always work and try to have an even better investments relationship with them, in consecuence for basically all the tourisim we get from them our countries always found it best to trade with each other, our politcal system is modeled mainly after the USA and they are our biggest economic parthners. Specially interesthing relation since the times of the Cold war when the Soviet Union influenced Nicaragua ,our northen neighbor, and the USA influenced us. Now its more of a Russia vs USA competition (Nicaragua influence by Russia and the Costa Rica influence by the USA) in terms of influence, but not as bad. Hope I answered your question amigo. Sorry for writing too much. Also,I wish we were a USA state. Our living conditions including mine would be so much better. The country with most Costa Ricans besides Costa Rica is the USA.

The argument could be made that the Soviet Union was never really a super power. Their economy was never on pare with ours. We could have bought and sold them ten times over. They held on to allies more out of fear than a genuine alliance based on common security concerns. And they were slipping behind us in the technology race. Modern Russia is in a much better place than the Soviet Union ever was.
