What is a swing check valve

I am assuming the Plug at the top of the check valve is to drain the check valve.. I am installing a shallow well. The check valve will be 30 feet away from the jet pump and 3 ft down ( frost line) In the colder months we will be winterizing the cabin, so I am assuming i can release the check valve by loosing the plug at the top of the check valve. Vs using a spring check valve where i would put a T into release the water or remove the check valve totally. Is my assumption correct?
