What is a zirconia crown and are they stronger than other materials?

Is it true that it is not recommended to put zirconium on the upper front teeth because of possible future mandibolare problems with jaw and it is better to put emax on the upper front teeth? even for those people who have bruxism while wearing a night guard?

I got 6 zirconiums on my upper and the back of the crowns feel so weird. Like grooved plastic caps. My tongue keeps wanting to push them away :/ is this normal?

I got zirconia crown on my feont three teeth and it looks very different from my other teeth. What should i do now. I dont have any self confidence to face people. As long as you keep your teeth properly brushed and flossed daily and watch your diet, drink plenty of water, you shouldn't get decay. However, the way they LOOK is something you should discuss with your dentist to see how they can help your other teeth match better and to see how often you need to get your teeth cleaned.

@@pany167 Generally speaking if you have crowns, you'll want to avoid super hard things that could crack them. Chewing ice, biting into hard candies, popcorn kernels, super hard veggies and super sticky candies like taffy and caramel chews are some examples.

@@sq9779 it seems the general consensus is yes but the type of crown chosen will be best determined by the dentist that does the exam. They will look at many factors to make that decision. Often times, zirconia crowns are placed on back teeth that need to hold up to more wear and tear. E max crowns are often chosen for how they look, sometimes much more natural so a great choice for front teeth.

I have been using zirconia for about 15 years now. It has been the number one used material for crowns for a few years now.

Rest assured all of the bacteria and decay will be removed before seating a crown but you can get a cavity under a crown as well too

Thanks for the video. I've heard that zirconia might be a bit too hard in some cases making the opposite tooth wear out sooner. Functionally, gold seems still to be the best because of various properties that are difficult to achieve with other materials. However, I'm wondering, what are the pure metal alternatives for people who want to have the most durable and safe crowns but do not have money for gold? I see some dentists offer cobalt-chrome crowns. Where do those stand when compared to gold and zirconia? It would be great to have a video that compares zirconia to some pure metal crowns.

PFM is thicker because it has two layers of material. Because of that, it needs more space on your tooth and thus more material needs to be drilled away from your tooth. That's not good. And because PFM has two layers, it's also more fragile at the junction of those layers. The outer shell can fracture and chip away. Technically, gold crowns are still the best - they are durable, they mesh well with our gum tissue, they have antibacterial properties, and they also wear out at a similar rate to your natural teeth, which is great. Zirconia is slightly worse in this regard because it's harder than normal teeth, which might cause the opposite tooth to wear out sooner when they grind against each other. So, if you want the strongest and safest crown, go for gold. If that's too expensive, go for another kind of pure metal crown. If you cannot handle the aesthetics of a metal piece in your mouth, then go for zirconia. Then there's also emax, which looks even more natural. Still, gold is functionally the best.

Under extreme conditions, which do you trust to get you from floirda to califorina and (BACK) a Mercedes or Toyota? Mercede looks great, but no one can compare or question the reliability of a Toyota. For anterior teeth dental BONDING ONLY!!! For a chip or or minor broken tooth. But if the crown is the only option PFM due to esthetics. But for back teeth ZIRCONIA ALL DAY LONG!!!!

@@itsaaronlolz Please, start saving up for a dental implant to replace that root canal tooth. And only have a periodontist put it in, i.e., they have a cbct scan unlike regular DDS. They can pin point exact location/depth/width for placement. Also with the cbct scan they can see if you are developing a infection or bone loss around that root canal tooth. Your regular (board certified DDS) xray bitewing or panamric xray scan (WILL NOT SHOW IT). Due to (ALL ROOT CANAL) tooth will develop either bone loss or infection or both over time. Dental implant with a bone graft are predictable, and offer superior longevity.

When you get a root canal you are putting leaving a none living tooth in your mouth. In no other form of medicine will a dead organ be left in your body, i.e. recepy for disaster.
