The advantage of using an audio generator of this kind is the stability of its generated signal in terms of voltage & frequency over the desired frequency range . Total harmonic distortion of output is very low. When testing the design of small signal audio amplifiers you want an input signal with as little distortion as possible, with as much stability as possible so that you can accurately measure performance characteristics of your amplifier over operating bandwidth. Next the audio generator is capable of very small continuous changes in frequency with turn of dial etc. An excellent piece of lab equipment for design & performance testing. A very good find along with CRT oscilloscope.

Hallo, How can I select an exact hz frequency the rotary wheel seems difficult to adjust ? Thanks for answering
@JosephX9 ай бұрын
its not difficult to adjust, the dial moves smoothly. There are markings with different numbers to help tell the frequency. If an exact frequency is needed the second channel of the oscilloscope can be used to confirm the frequency. Though, analog audio generators are not as precise as their digital counterparts, they are much better for working with a wide range of frequencies and for frequency sweeping.

Dude, great video. What would you recommend I get to generate sound to quash my neighbors dogs from barking. I'd need between 20 kHz and 35 kHz and I have the tweeters that can handle 100 watts. Any recommendations? Thank you.
@JosephX2 жыл бұрын
thanks. I'm not encouraging or recommending anything that would upset PETA, ASPCA or your neighbor. But if your looking for a high frequency generator, I would start by looking on Ebay (check the description and condition first) and any near by Hamfests (like a flee-market for electronic and radio equipment). You can find good deals on second hand equipment, just check the range adjustment (some times called a multiplier) for a x1000 setting (some listed as x1K). Set the dial or LCD display (depending on what your using) to 35 and the range to x1000 and there's a 35KHz wave. If you want a new one here's a decent one for a reasonable price on amazon www.amazon.com/1HZ-500KHZ-Functional-Generator-Seesii-Frequency/dp/B08NSR5GYR/?th=1 There are professional ones on amazon, but there extremely expensive, starting at about $100 and on average about $300 to $500. If your up for a project people have used arduinos to make high frequencies. But once you've got your generator, you can hook it up to an amp and hook the amp up to your speakers. I explain how to do it in this other video kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYfJqZececqprcU

Does this not work for other things like a refrigerator?
@JosephX3 жыл бұрын
It could, but there really is not any electronics to test in a refrigerator (not counting smart fridges, that's a whole other thing). Plus any electronics that needed to be tested in a regular fridge, could be tested easer with a multi-meter. This equipment is mainly used to generate and test / "view" the signal. Think like devices that input one signal and change/manipulate it. Like radios, TVs, amps, computers and etc.

@@JosephX I was wondering how do you hook up the signal/function generator to the input of an amp? Do you use a bnc cable that has a rca end on it? So the audio generator sends audible sound to speaker, & visible waves to the oscilloscope. Thus showing & hearing whatever frequency is sent! Yes, I think I got that. Apparently: the Roman catholic church, changed the 432Hz used in Music, to 440Hz, which lowers our mental ability or comprehension? Any Musos out there can hopefully, set up their instruments, back to the true scales of 432Hz? I hope there are people out there who can put this right? I really don't know enough about this, but some of You will. P/S, thanks for the info & Happy New Year.
@vihuelamig3 ай бұрын
It's complete BS. Concert pitch is just a reference, do you seriously think that when we listen to a piece of music the only frequency we ever hear is 440Hz? Of course historically reference pitch has been all over the place - 415, 435, 440 and all manner of other pitches. How do we know this? We look at fixed pitched instruments that are 500, 400, 300, 200, 100 years old. A guitar is no good, a piano or harpsichord is no good, a harp is no good. They are not fixed pitch instruments but a recorder and other wind instruments are, so are organs. They exist in the museums and cathedrals of the world, real evidence that pitch was all over the place, it even varied within the same country and between towns.
