musket Born in England I came from a family which was originally Anglican ,and converted to Christianity in the 1920& 30;s .It is a false church of ritual and tradition and many do not know what they believe .Their inclusiveness means, you can do and think what you like. The saying is hatch ,match and dispatch .That is the only time most attended the church mainly out of superstition .

All I can say is the Episcopal church saved my life. I’m gay and coming from the Baptist denomination I became so depressed and ashamed for being gay I attempted to take my life multiple times. I thought “we’ll if I’m just going to go to hell just bring it on rather than a life of praying the gay away but won’t work”. I found the church who helped me so much. I am now fully off antidepressants and truly close with God. I’m married and know my Lord loves me. The angry people I see on here really makes me so sad for them. They were the type of people who made me loose my faith the first time. It brings to mind Matthew 18:6 If anyone causes one of these little ones-those who believe in me-to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.

Dear yellow468, thanks for the comment. God's grace is plenty for all of us. The Episcopal Church is still, with all its problems, one of the best churches in the world. Because The Episcopal Church practices love with every fibre of their being now, than in the past. Hope you can return to the church and find a loving community of people and let us leave the judgment to God. Blessings.

I used to be a Traditional Latin Mass Catholic before a friend invited me to the Episcopal church. I was amazed how beautiful the Eucharist and the inclusiveness. Your video was important because you explained the use of Scripture, Tradition and Reason which was new to me. I also love the inclusiveness of our church. I am very involved in ministry and am discerning a call to the deaconate or priesthood.

@@jackhermes9086 Yes. The fulfilment of the Prophesy was Acts 2 in Jerusalem. The church was individual congregations at the begining. 5 dioceses were formed. In Mathew 7 we find a clear picture of what ths rock is. The Roman Catholic church is a patriarchy of the church CHRIST built, but the church is all of the believers. St. Peter went to Rome and estabished the church there after Jerusalem and Antioch. St. Mark went to Alexandria and St. Andrew went to the city that became Constantinople. However, in none of the New Testament does Rome have superiority. That theology developed later with St. Gregory. The Eastern churches have always maintained their independance. The church is made up of different denominations or local congregations that are independant in governance like the church has always been.

After reading some of the reviews here I was blown away by the anger, hatred and fear each of those writers have shown. When we truly love our neighbor absolutely nothing will go wrong in the end. Don't take my word for it. Read the Bible from cover to cover and read what Jesus speaks in the New Testament. We fail to acknowledge what in the end decides our fate is not the rule of any church, but pure unearned grace of God and the love that fed the hungry, sheltered the homeless or visited those in prison and more. If love does not bring God's kingdom, I wonder what will? If anybody believes canons, liturgy, rites, bishops or priests and even some pious laity will give us the ticket to the Kingdom of God, we should run in the opposite direction. I pray for and bless you so that you who is angry or scared will be freed from such debilitating spiritual self-righteousness.

I am for a lack of better words a lapsed Catholic, I was active in my last church as a lector, it was Franciscan whom I love dearly, I cannot find that in Catholic churches and haven't but I moved and now I just read scripture and pray. My former Pastor who ministered to me and made that Parish so great for me (he was very Christ based in teaching and lectures) was sent to another parish, I have come to learn he is now a Pastor in an Episcopal church, he has married as well. I am happy to hear that, and all those attending his church are so blessed to have him. It is down south I am in the North. So I am looking into the Episcopal church, this video is helpful. I am sorry so many people argue about religion and lose sight of what it is all about. I haven't time for that. Thank you for this video and God Bless. I will look into a local Episcopal church. I love too you speak of St. Francis of Assisi whom I admire so much. I am looking to be ministered to. Thank you again.

cconeafter909 Hi! I am so sorry that there has to be arguments on these replies. I probably replied more than anyone here. But I get so upset when my church is attacked. I love God so much, and I love the Episcopal Church. I searched in other religions, and ended up doing a full circle, and ended still being an Episcopalian. I was raised Episcopalian, and lived in the Deep South. I was bullied as a child, and much of the bullying was because I 'went to the wrong church, and was going to Hell.' Besides that, there is no room for hate in any religion. I wish you lived in Columbus, Ohio. If you did, I would encourage you to come to my church. Our rector is awesome. He is filled with the Holy Spirit, joyful, and so kind. We love him, and his sweet wife. Our parish is so loving. We are a downtown church, and we have a wonderful street ministry. This video is very good, but may be a little confusing, without seeing the entire course that this priest is teaching. But he is teaching a catechism class, and with that you are learning about our history, and details about our structure, and some of our beliefs. But the Episcopal Church is so much more than that. Our church focuses on God/Christ's teachings about His love, and passing that love to others. We deny no one the opportunity to come to our churches, and worship God. Everyone is welcome, no matter who you are. We also help the poor and homeless, stand for justice, equality, and human rights. We obey Christ, at least we try very hard to do what Christ asked us to do. Episcopalians don't go on and on about Hell. We try not to be judgemental. No one has any right to tell another person that he/she is going to Hell. Also, bigotry is considered a great sin. And if you were a Roman Catholic, you will be very comfortable worshipping in our Mass and receiving the Holy Sacrament. Our Eucharest service is so beautiful. You will see varying degrees of Catholicism, in our worship. (We are a Catholic Church, but we are Anglo-Catholic. We have high church worship, which has incense, holy water, and chanting, and we also have a no frills Mass, which is simple. I am more of a high church person. And the last thing I will add is this. We encourage thought and reason, believe that Science actually co-exists with God, instead of opposing it. I can suggest a wonderful book to help you learn more about us. It is called "The Episcopal Handbook". It is a delightful book, full of the "Episcopal stuff" and makes a great use of humor as a teaching tool. I was sitting in our church's garden reading it and was laughing to tears. I got my copy from Amazon. I hope my long-winded post gives you some insight. Please remember, 'The Episcopal Church Welcomes You'--"A House of Prayer for ALL People. God's peace and blessings to you.

calvin1517 We don't bless abortion. But we are a merciful church that understands that sometimes there are circumstances where abortion is the only way to save a woman's life. What about women whose babies died in the womb? Which is merciful, making a woman carry a dead baby inside her, or having an abortion so that the mother doesn't carry a dead baby to term, or have major health problems? Nothing is black or white. Calling us wicked, huh? Taking Scriptures out of context to push hate isn't wicked? Hate is wicked. Judging people who are different is just plain wrong. If you say you are following the Scriptures, you are a liar. If you are attacking gays, Episcopalians, refugees, immigrants, poor, and are a bigot, you have missed the point altogether. I feel closer to God as an Episcopalian, than in any religion I have explored. Love, Christ's love is what the Episcopal Church is all about. Sin is a personal matter between God and each individual person. Let God deal with those of us who are sinners--which we all are. Take a look around you. The world is in an upheaval because of a hate-filled president. Hate is never good, and if you hate LGBT people you committing a terrible sin. Think about it, and I will continue to stand up against hate, as my Lord and Savior commanded.

Why are you a lapsed Catholic? What can't you find in Catholic Churches? Assuming that your former pastor was a Catholic Priest, what you are saying that he gave up on what God has given him for worldly desires. What can a man made Church give you that the Catholic Church cannot give you? St. Francis of Assisi was a Catholic and is Catholic saint. He taught what you now have to reject in order to be a Protestant.

I have been involved in acolyteing when I was a teenager; VBS and the parish choir as an adult; been on women's retreats which helps me to grow in my own spirituality; and involved in Sacred Circles that also helps with my spirituality to continue to evolve. To be involved in the Epiphany pageants each year increases my spiritual life.

Continued... I did not make this decision lightly. Although I am a cradle Episcopalian, I went on my own spiritual journey. I ended up back to where I started. I learned that no religion is perfect, and realized that I was still an Episcopalian Christian. It is sad how people attack one another with so much venom. I love the Episcopal Church. She welcomed me back, no questions asked. In all my life, I have never seen a more loving group of Christians. The Episcopal Church works well for me. One thing I love is that Episcopalians don't say they are the one path to God. But it is the perfect church for some people, just as the Roman Catholic church is right for some, Baptist for others. God reaches out to all of us in His own way. Seeing people of faith spewing hate back and forth is just so wrong. Aren't we all striving for the same thing. These fights over gays, women priests, and liturgies are a sickness that takes our focus from God. The important thing is how we treat our fellow humans. The rest of these things are Satan's way of breaking down our Universal Christian Church. A house divided soon collapses. "Love one another, as I love you. As for the Episcopal Eucharistic Liturgy, it dates back to the Apostles, and the Episcopal church is a part of the Apostolic Succession, through the Laying On Of Hands. Henry the Eighth is not the founder of the Anglo-Catholic church, although he did play a part. People like Thomas Cramner, who was a martyr in our church, made sure that the Apostolic Succession continued, and the Episcopal, Roman Catholic, and Orthodox churches will continue. This began with the Apostles. This is some of what is taught in our Confirmation, Explorers, or Catechism classes. *The Episcopal Church is an Anglo-Catholic tradition, who is universally called Anglicanism.

+Catherine Cheek "One thing I love is that Episcopalians don't say they are the one path to God." Is there one truth or not? These denominations do not merely teach different ways of getting to God. Rather, they *teach different doctrines*, and they therefore make different claims on *what truth actually is*. So, how can each denomination be correct? They can't. Which Church teaches the _fullness of the revealed truth of Christ_? Shouldn't we evaluate which one claims to have this revelation, and which one has the history and authority to back it up?

the church didn't come til 600 years after his death and was not in the bible....... just because Jesus said that to Peter does not mean the Catholic church is the church.... we only have their word... but i digress!!! In the bible there is no church , but for the Hebrew (Jewish) Church!!! A Church comes 600 years later, and the Mormons claim they are "the church" as do the Baptist, the Pentecost they claim being descendants of a relatives of Abraham they are the church... none of this really matters in the scheme of things, and is irrelevant as "the church came 600 years after the death of Jesus!! I value every writer but I do admire deeply those who can give life when they talk, write or listen. We have a few here who generates life. To those few, I say God is pleased with you. To those who are angry and upset over the love we show here, I say, God loves you so dearly I pray you will learn how to take it and give it away freely. In the end I promise you, the love you give away freely is what makes the world a better place. Not righteousness or correctness of thought, feelings or emotions and not even fear. Love. Start loving one another. No wonder Jesus reduced the ten commandments into two. Trinity is formed only and when love is horizontal and vertical. I hope you form a Trinity every single moment of your life. A horizontal human being with a vertical God places you in the middle and then you are part of a Holy Trinity. Celebrate Trinity today and you will find yourself ecstatic. Blessings.

To sum this up: apostolic church (apostles that walked with Christ). They knew Jesus Christ (Yeshua) was/is the Way, the Truth and the Life, and nobody goes to the Father except through Him. They know this because they heard it from His lips. He bore our sins and inequity and was the perfect sacrifice to Yahweh, who required sacrifice for forgiveness of sins. Jesus was God (Holy Spirit) in the flesh, and WAS that sacrifice so that all might be forgiven of their sins and have everlasting life in the Glory of God. Heaven. God's Kingdom. We are saved by grace through faith in Christ. If you love Him, keep His commandments. John 14: 15-17

Thank you so much for posting. I am seriously considering joining the Episcopal Church. Is there an online resource that list the steps and what is required? I think I know what church I will be attending. One problem is my work schedule. I work on the weekends....Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So attending regular sunday services will be almost impossible BUT sometimes possible.

Hate on the otherhand, is destructive, consuming, ignorant, violent and dark, we know who prefers this state of being, and given some of the comments on here, i think they the commentators do too.

@@thomashogan16 the only thing that is Truth is the world of God "The Bible" nothing else. The Bible says not to change or to add to the Bible the Catholic church has added things to the Bible, they worship and pray to Saints. The only one with our praises is Jesus and him alone. He is the one that went to the cross for our sins no one else. It also says to test everything buy the word of God. In other words read the Bible for enlightenment dont just take someone's word for it. John 4:1 King James Version (KJV) 4 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. @@thomashogan16 If you speak to Eastern Orthodox they say they are the one church. After all, they broke off in 1055 as of changes the Romans were making in the church and Orthodox wanted to hold to the old ways of the church and they carry it on the best possible. Those with monks and churches and even seminary do stand during services and hold candles s( beeswax) and they read from prayer books and bible readings etc during services. they hold to the date not the pagan changes of dates. So it depends on how you speak to. Orthodox was the Eastern world and that is where it started. All Bishops were equal and there was, not any pope. The pope idea cam later and they never saw the people as above the rest just someone they would go to for asking e and meetings but even Peter was not perfect and the apostles did find some fault with his ideas. So they started with all bishops equal. They worked together, The Eastern Orthodox do not want women to dress immorally and to live a lie that is not what our Lord wanted. At the beginning, the church was ONE, but now they are divided by names. Revelation speaks of that and how the churches'' allowed pagans thought in''' and how they were calling themselves' by their names' and yet they should be called by the name of Jesus. He is the one the churches are built on what He gave us and taught.

To the homophobes. Homosexuality is mentioned in the Old Testament and The Epistle Of Timothy. But Jesus spoke against divorce a few times in the Gospels. Our Lord never spoke about homosexuality. It is strange how people ignore the words of our Savior. The Episcopal Church is a very Scriptural church, remembering what our Savior taught about love, compassion, and judgemental people. There is a billboard that the Episcopal Church has displayed in various places that reads, "God loves everyone. No exceptions". What is Christ's church without love? My church is a very loving and compassionate church, who helps the poor, stands against human injustice, and puts into action the things Jesus requested of His followers. I have been to many churches, but have never felt love and accepted the way I do in the Episcopal Church.

I have thought a lot about this and have talked to a lot of people. Those of you, whose faiths fordid homosexuality, you are not free from homosexuality. You may not be aware of this, but there are gay people in your churches. They cover it up because they would be mistreated. They are there. Because of this, many of your gay members leave and come to the Episcopal, Universal Unitarian, United Churches of Christ. I participated in a marriage equality prayer march, and talked to many gay people, many of them United Methodists. There are these movements in all faiths, gay people who have united in their denominations, who are trying to get understanding within their faiths. Even Pope Francis wants the Roman Catholic Church to be more inclusive. This is not going to go away. Those of us who are inclusive know that homosexuality is not a choice. They usually realize they are gay in adolescence. If you don't believe homosexuality is okay, don't do it, it's that simple. Some of your churches forbid drinking. But the members drink. My mother has run into preachers and others who forbid drinking, in the liquor store. They were unaware that she knew who they were. Many Roman Catholics use birth control. Many pastors have been caught having adulterous relationships with church members, who broke the silence. Even I have broken rules in the Episcopal Church. We all sin, no matter what we believe, and the beautiful thing is that Christ forgives us.

Maryland Man: My guess: the Episcopal Church and its leadership don't believe it is necessary to adopt a position on medical marijuana, nor on each of America's "issues du Jour". We will listen to all the other faiths which rush to "inform" mankind what they are supposed to believe, but, no, thanks; we will keep discerning "what is right/wrong according to God" , never mind what some organized faiths, or some state/county government laws, would try to put into God's mouth as The Word regarding marijuana. Archbishop Desmond Tutu, in "Book of Joy", which he co-authored with the Dalai Lama, says: "Dear Child of God, you are loved with a love that nothing can shake, a love that loved you long before you were created, a love that will be there long after everything has disappeared. You are precious, with a preciousness that is totally quite immeasurable. And God wants you to be like God. Filled with life and goodness and laughter -- and Joy!" All of us! Let's turn away from the condemnations -- and work to further understanding, among people and faiths. Look... from generation to generation, we humans have claimed to "know" what is right/wrong according to God. That keeps changing. Once, some Episcopal priests owned enslaved people. Today, we don't think that anyone can own another person. (In Maryland, the Episcopal Bishop of Maryland is African American; so is the current Primate of the Episcopal Church.) Once, the Episcopal Church forbade the ordination of women, or the consecration of a gay person as a bishop. Knowing that some organized faiths do condemn several things that we do not condemn, I pray to the God of all of us that we will continue to discern God's will, his love, his truth. Thus, don't hold out too long for some Episcopal Church stance on medical marijuana -- or any other "issue du Jour". Peace

Read the Gospels. Jesus preached love, which is the the foundation of Christianity. It doesn't matter about a person's lifestyle. He told us to love everyone, regardless. Who are we to call anyone sinful or evil. "All have sinned and fall short in the Glory of God." Stop hating those whose ideals are different than yours. Remember, Our Lord didn't hang with the righteous. He ran with the 'sinners', the outcasts. As for homosexuality, if you don't believe in it, don't do it. But don't ever judge gays. Think about your sins and relationship with God. And stop hating. Jesus equated hatred to murder. Hate is much more sinful than what a person does in the bedroom.

if all Jesus preached was love, then why did he say unless ye repent ye will all likewise perish. Stop equating an evangelical's hatred for sin the same as hatred for the person. He hung with the sinners and outcasts that they may become righteous and holy, not for them to continue indulging in their sins.

Would you say the episcopalian church is the one true denomination? Or isn't salvation not dependent on a denomination but faith and works. I am eastern orthodox and it seems as so there are a 1000 Protestant denominations as result of schisms and what have you. As so the Catholic Church we see as a heresy as well for creating their own estranged dogmas (ex cathedra, immaculate conception, purgatory, scapulars, indulgences, crusades, and extra 14 ecumenical councils). My question is how do these Protestants believe their own religion is correct based on one mans interpretation such as calvin, Luther, Zwingli, Henry VIII; over the interpretations of the apostles in an unchanged form of Christianity.

No religion is perfect. There is not a religion that can claim it is the only way to God. Every faith has its faults. So the Episcopal Church accepts everyone. But her critics are so busy insulting her, while the critics preach bigotry. Religions differ so, because each of us is different. I am an Episcopalian because it is the church that brings me closer to God. Episcopalians aren't going to Hell. Our church is full of so much love. I am a part of that love. Some people find Roman Catholicism perfect for them, and Baptists, Methodists, etc, feel the same way. None of us are totally wrong, or totally right. Religions are made up oh human beings, therefore, there is not one perfect faith. It is sad to see people, who call themselves Christians attacking other's churches. We are all one in Christ Jesus. Instead, help the poor, be kind, stand for justice. Try harder to be like Jesus, instead of worrying about the souls of everyone else. This message for everyone.

To All Saints Episcopal Church, I love the Episcopal Church and am a descendant of two or three of the Presiding Bishops of the Church (Frank Tracy Griswold, Alexander Viets Griswold included) but don't consider myself Anglican because of the socially liberal way the church has gone into. While I understand where homosexuals and those women who wish to be ordained PRIEST AND BISHOP are coming from, it is condemned in the bible and holy tradition, both of which you stem from. The true church could and should not embrace such practices, especially because we just live in a time where its acceptable. I pray everyday that the Episcopal Church and my beloved Anglican tradition re-embrace and re-establish the true faith of Christ Jesus. Yours in Christ

This is holding me back too!!. I just wish it were not so. I guess though we can remember Jesus and his telling the one caught in adultery " You are not guilty, but GO AND SIN NO MORE" So she had to 'stop sinning'. Maybe if we see it as love which covers sin, it can help us? Yet God will judge so we do not need we do not need to judge. Maybe being in the church, they will change their minds on how they are conducting themselves? But if the church does not condemn sin, it is not good either. Thy need to let them know they are loved and welcomed, but not saying it is complemented in any way? Sometimes we go too far in trying to be kind to all and forget about what the bible tells us. We then do not follow the words " Be IN the world but NOT PART of this world" We have a higher calling.

As an orthodox christian, i also feel these changing leniencies of morality, law, liturgical practice, and hierarchy in various Protestant denominations, are carried on by the desire to please man, not God. If the church out of the blue says homosexuality is now acceptable because some liberal evangelicals say it's archaic to keep it banned, then this is pleasing the will of man. I grew up in the Episcopal Church in the 1960s. I don´t even recognize the church today. We had Father Hendricks at St. Lukes Richmond, a kindly old Anglo-Catholic priest. We used the Anglican Missal and you cannot get more Anglican than that. We hosted the annual diocesan Acolytes Festival and I remember once the Bishop of Fon de Lac came. Then in the 1970s the Church began to change, began to go haywire. Ordaining woman, writing prayer books in modern language and the absolute worst of all, setting up a picnic table style altar so the priest can face the people. Today it is not even the same religion. You can thank Vatican II and its abominations for some to the rubbish you see today. When the Anglican Ordinariate came along many parishes quit the Episcopal Church and were received by Rome still continuing with the Anglican form . And that is all that is left of the real Episcopal church.

Oh my. Your way or the highway? I don't think God works that way. Episcopalians have always been able to embrace a variety of church styles and thinking. Did you miss that?

That is a lie save maybe hyenas - The Lord is so loving he would never want anyone to suffer iniside like that - by forcing society to condone it, validate it does not make it right - Repent and know u r forgiven, just like so called hetero, marry or burn - simple as that - let him who can accept it ,accept it.

Who brings a small child to a lecture, when clearly the child is going to bored and becomes a distraction to being able to hear the speaker properly, very dis respectable to the speaker. Leave your child at home, so other dont have to be deprived of the true experience.

So God has commanded you to incite hate for those whose beliefs differ from yours. You missed the point of Jesus's teachings and mission. As an Episcopalian, I realize that I am imperfect. And though, I am imperfect, God loves me.

Which is why the good brother isn't doing that. You are right, of course, but your bare comment isn't enough. Jesus said something about 'love' as well as 'truth,' as I recall.

+Vova Chammonet Episcopalians? 'Stuffy'? HA! Hardly. Their Church is all about life and love. It's the likes of Westboro Baptist, Faithful Word Baptist (of Tempe, AZ), and the numerous money-grubbing megachurches that are spiritually 'dead'. The Episcopal Church has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to affirming human rights and human dignity, and in beautifully reconciling science and faith. The fundamentalists have always been behind, and trying to drag the rest of us back to the dark ages.

You probably haven't been in an Episcopal Church in many years, or at all. Episcopalians are a lively bunch. We have so much fun. I have a great time at our church. Our priest is a happy and fun guy, our worship is beautiful, (unless you don't understand liturgical worship), and there is so much love in our church. Our rector is so compassionate, and he radiates from the Holy Spirit. The Episcopal Church has a "come as you are" attitude. Today, I glanced around the church and homeless were worshipping with people with money, blacks, gays, whites and others praying side by side, praying ancient words and greeting each other in peace. We don't have zealots, just people who love God. It is where I feel closest to God. Our worship may not be what works for everyone. Everyone worships in different ways. But the Episcopal Church never claims to be the only way to God, but is my pathway to God.

jesters60 I've heard their sort of attacks many times over the years. Basically, people like that think a church is 'spiritually dead' if it doesn't consider the spreading of homophobia and sexism to be its primary objective in this world.

+Catholic533 Huh? The Episcopal Church believes in all of those things. Where did you hear that? Our Masses are almost indistinguishable unless you are Roman Catholic or Anglo- Catholic (Episcopal), we use the same Lectionary, we follow the Liturgical year, our priests where collars and vestments, we use chanting, Holy water, incense, and some churches use Sanctus bells, and we have a catechism. We have our differences in beliefs. And there is another group of Roman Catholics where priests marry. A lady at my church is married to a Roman Catholic priest. And there is a movement within the RC to include gays. Most faiths are dealing with this. The Episcopal Church pushes inclusion for every one of God's children, just as Jesus loved ALL people.

Xagelmg "By the power of the Holy Spirit He became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontious Pilate, suffered death and was buried. On the third day He rose again in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end"--The Nicene Creed, which is recited many times a week in Episcopal Church.
