A coastal area or transitional zone where freshwater from the rivers and streams mixes with the saltwater from the oceans is called an estuary. They are also called bays, lagoons, or harbors. The water in this region is called Brackish water. Do you know why? Because the water present here is neither salty nor fresh.

Not really, estuary is the part where fresh water mixes with sea water, so although the source of fresh water may originate In mountains they only form when the mixing of water happens. Hope that explanation helped!
