Yes, we are saved by The Grace of God first and foremost and not our own Grace. It is God's gift and doing works to try gaining salvation won't work. However it's clear all over the Bible that we are saved by Faith, repenting of our sins (can be directly to God, you don't need a priest). And upholding the 10 commandments. If you believe the Bible is 100% accurate then Mark 10:17-25 nkjv It comes straight from the literal mouth of God

I'm definitely an Evangelical in my theology, but I'm disappointed with what has happened in the United States. It is painful to me that many now associate Evangelicals with Trump and prosperity gospel error. We need repentance and revival. The so-called Evangelical church has become weak, compromised, and in many ways no different from the world. I know many who are looking into Roman Catholicism and Orthodoxy because many are craving traditional moral values. If we do not address the hypocrisy, abuse, and unbiblical practices in the Evangelical church, it will continue to decline until we all become desperate for revival, refreshing, and reformation. Also, no other religion can lead to salvation. Evangelical means Gospel. How are we getting this wrong? We need to be reading in our Bibles and not be lead astray by false teachers. I sincerely love people of other religions and never would wish them harm. I do not believe at all that Christians should force or manipulate non-believers into becoming Christians. However, the Gospel is the only way to be saved and that is why it is paramount that we share this. Why else would God the Father send His Son to brutally die on the cross for our salvation if there was another way? I was an agnostic before becoming a Christian. There's absolutely no point in playing religion. Either we believe that God is telling us the truth or we make God a liar. There is no in-between. I tried to live a life in that in-between viewpoint. It does not work. God is commanding people everywhere to repent from sin and surrender their lives to Christ in faith. The whole point of the Gospel is salvation from sin. Until we truly see our sins and idols for what they are, hateful rebellion against God and acts of destruction, we will not understand the purpose of salvation and sanctification. Jesus loves us with the purest and most beautiful love in existence. Love tells us the truth and that can deeply offend us at first. It is only through the truth we can heal and be made new.

Very true indeed, my friend. We must be sincere, or we might as well go to a mosque, or a shrine, or a Satanic Temple 'church.' We need to truly believe and try to fulfill our duties as children of God. It can be very difficult sometimes, but we must try.

"Looking into Catholicism" is new to me as a lapsed Catholic. Church attendance has collapsed worldwide among Catholics, and at least one country (Honduras) is probably more correctly classified as Protestant rather than Catholic at this point. Brazil is probably not that far behind Honduras, either. On a personal note, I was the only Anglo in an apartment building full of Dominicans and was befuddled at how many were Pentecostalists or SDA. And while nothing has replaced Catholicism in Ireland I think you'd be hard-pressed to refer to the country (as one Pope did) as "most Catholic Ireland" at this point. Probably closer to being "most Atheist Ireland."

Care for a radical answer? The gospel, according to Christ, Isn't about Christ, or salvation. It's about repentance, and the coming KINGDOM OF GOD. You have a bible don't you? Matthew 24:14 Mark 1:14-15 Acts 28:31 Salvation is a TEACHING, not the gospel. Then theres the matter, of heresy, and the source of it. The Catholic church. The heresy? Trinity doctrine, and Sunday keeping. I'm not surprised. Christianity is overdue for falling apart, or REAL reform. Worship in truth, is becoming non existent. Bless your heart.

I think that dichotomy is not a good way of identifying 'evangelical'. @zacdredge38593 ай бұрын
@@4M3THY5T So both of those definitions are related to the Church usage in question. By 'mainline' this is being used analogically to describe the historic status of these churches; it's shorthand for Mainline Protestantism. So Churches that can trace their history back to the initial stage of the Reformation, namely Presbytarian's, Lutherans and Anglican's, form the mainline. I guess Joshua is further distinguishing them from such groups in those traditions that are evangelical but that's a later historical development and maybe not entirely accurate given 'mainline' properly refers to these historic institutions and there can still be Evangelical churches within the Mainline that have not formed their own distinct denominations. I'd say in this video you should assume he's talking about the status quo or majority position within a given denominational body when differentiating in this way as he doesn't address this earlier history in this video and Joshua is educated enough to know that would be anachronistic.

It blows my mind people wouldn’t know the Mainline, really shows how times have changed! I believe like almost 40 of our 45 Presidents have been from Mainline denominations. I would argue outside of the South, it’s what most people picture when they hear “going to church.” For example, the Simpsons went to a church that was meant to be a combination of Lutheran, Presbyterian and Methodist to make it the most stereotypical middle class Protestant church.

One thing that you missed to point out is that conservative Evangelicals teach that repentance from sin is essential part of the Gospel, and therefore genuine faith will be manifested in true repentance and spiritual regeneration (born-again) and will also be confirmed afterwards in life of progressive sanctification. It is not enough to say sorry for sins once at conversion so a person can be justified by Christ's atoning sacrifice, and afterwards continue living in willful sin. This belief that one is saved only by accepting Jesus as his savior is called Free Grace doctrine (maybe you should make a video about this).

By the Barna criteria, this Catholic counts as one of the 6% 9-point Evangelicals. Not sure what to make of that. Maybe some of those criteria do not adequately reflect Evangelical belief. From what I have heard, one of the big questions within Evangelicalism today is, "What is Evangelicalism ?" Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones and John Stott (I think it was) had something of a difference of opinion over this question. If Evangelicals of their standing could not agree on the matter, I am not sure that the question will be answered any time soon. I think Evangelicalism is an *ethos*, an attitude, a way of doing things - something too subtle to be given unambiguous boundaries, like a triangle, or pinned down like a butterfly in a show-case; but recognisable when met. Perhaps there are degrees of being Evangelical.
@zacdredge38593 ай бұрын
Is the Plymouth Brethren statement 'we don't like logos' from them or Joshua added it for clarification? Also, on a more serious note, I don't think it should be treated as an essential of Evangelicalism for all Christians to have a 'born again experience'; it seems to me someone could have a 'born again theology' but have some range of acceptable notions of how that is experienced or perceived by a given individual.
@namelastname95782 жыл бұрын
(Full disclosure - commented the same elsewhere) Fair enough. An Evangelical holds the Bible in highest regard, i.e., it is 'inerrant', but the way it is interpreted marks the difference between an Evangelical and a Fundamentalist. An Evangelical will believe in the Bible, but interpret it, perhaps, more liberally as narrative, or myth, or philosophy (at least in some areas). A Fundamentalist will interpret it LITERALLY and STRICTLY. That's the fundamental (no pun intended) difference between these two schools of thought. Curiously and commonly, Fundamentalists often hide under the guise of Evangelicals, without even realising they are the former.

The Catholic Church gave us the Holy Bible which means only the Catholic Church interprets holy scripture. Protestants are in heresy as they (you) follow the heretic Martin Luther of the 16th century. Protestants reject Christ in the Eucharist. If you reject the Catholic Church then you reject Christ Himself. Jesus taught His real Presence in the Eucharist and He promised to guide His Church into all Truth. There are thousands of Protestant denominations all having their own interpretation of scripture. This chaos can only come from satan. Protestants are heretics . You cannot get to Heaven without Christ in the Eucharist. Protestants reject the Eucharist. There is no salvation outside the Catholic Church.

"Evangelical" in the name of Lutheran churches is a holdover from the name Luther gave to Lutheranism. Essentially, in the name of a Lutheran denomination, the word "Evangelical" just means "Lutheran" (So "Evangelical Lutheran" is repeating the same thing twice). In some languages it can also mean "Protestant." Most Lutherans use other terms then to indicate where they stand, like "Conservative" or "Confessional."

Evangelicals I observe at close range may reference the Kingdom of God, but their attachment is to the earthly kingdom of man. The habit of placing faith and grace in between the action of following Christ's commandments is the avoidance of one's spiritual responsibility. Simply, they believe in self defense of their earthly bodies. They cannot turn the other cheek when defending their children. Therefore, could you expect them to sell everything they own of value and give the money to the poor? To love those that hate and despise them? They may be good people by earthly standards but the Kingdom of God does not have a place for full of faith but not enough faith to commit to full action.

Very informative video! I have a question though, how do catholic ideals differ from evangelical ideals?
@IncogKneegrow1 Жыл бұрын
Catholics believe salvation through works. They have hierarchy with priests up to the pope (who cannot marry and must remain celibate forever). They also pray to saints, Mary, and statues. Christians believe salvation through faith and God’s grace, accepting Jesus as their lord and savior. They only pray to God/Jesus/Holy Spirit

That is where I will depart from evangelicals: Christian exclusivity. Did Jesus meant that he is alone is the way to the Father? For those who heard about Jesus and heard or listen to him or his disciples on His teachings and did not believe will not go to the Father. but those who have not known him or his teachings but does what Jesus' said is like personally hearing him and does what the says.
@KingsnPriests2 жыл бұрын
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. NO ONE comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6). Would Jesus lie? No one means no one. If Christians do not share about the forgiveness and Lordship of Jesus, people will go to hell for their sins because no one offered them a chance at forgiveness. "14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear WITHOUT a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent?" Romans 10: 14-15. It's up to us Christians to share about Jesus and invite people to make Him Lord. That is our calling on this earth. We are the "sent ones." All who do not believe and no Him are already condemned. John 3:18 "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does NOT believe IS condemned already, because he has NOT believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." We must Evangelize so people will believe.

If Jesus is the one who will judge us all, which is what he claimed, there is logically no path to God that does not go through him. That does not logically entail that a person must be formally Christian. It is possible that someone could belong to him without knowing it or in spite of what he or she "believes".
@diosdadoapias16 күн бұрын
@michaelkistner6286 God the Father gave Jesus all the authority in heaven and on earth. The Father can volunteer his son. Those who did what Jesus says by their innate Cation although they do not know him could be tantamount of knowing him because they are doing by their nature what Jesus taught.
@michaelkistner628614 күн бұрын
@diosdadoapias That is possible. The question isn't whether we have Jesus but rather does he have us. That said, I, at least, don't find myself living by nature the way he commands. I often fail despite my knowledge of his will and have to come to him in repentance asking forgiveness, something that never occurred to me before my conversion.
@diosdadoapias14 күн бұрын
@@KingsnPriests Did Jesus says that he is the only way? Not all human will come to know Jesus. But his teachings if followed even without knowing or listening to him personally is tantamount of knowing him, so they can go to the Father. Good for those who have the opportunity to know the gospel but what about those who have not? Going through him is not literal. Jesus is not lying. It is his listener or reader of his teachings that do not go deeper behind his lines. Please read the scriptures and connect it with realities; and also the other manuscript like the old testament.

I understand the theory of salvation by grace. Which could possibly be true. But the Bible says faith without works is dead. How can you have salvation without faith? To me thats definitely contradictory.
@KingsnPriests2 жыл бұрын
Read Romans Chapter 10. No one can be established (go to heaven) by their own righteousness (good works). That's what Israel tried to do, and they were NOT justified in God's sight. We must confess Jesus as Lord and Repent. Lordship implies submission to His Words, so yes, faith should have action. Any Christian with "faith" but no "action" is considered back-slidden and must repent. God might be showing them grace, but they are not allowing Jesus to be Lord (king) of their life. This submission begins with confession, and is enforced through action. "9 That if thou shalt CONFESS with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt BELIEVE in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou SHALT be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed." ❤Great News❤to❤ Evangelists❤ In my view THE GIFT of evangelist is that in accordance with the saying of Jesus pbuh, you will reap the crop which you didn't sow, means that when Jesus pbuh comes back, He will tell them to convert to Islam bcoz this is the last true revelation and Mohammed is the Last and Final Messenger of God, so all Christians will convert to Islam. Now if you see, the Muslims are suffering because of they being believers in Islam and they are being tortured and slaughtered because of this. So the crop of Islam is sown 1400years before, Muslims are watering this crop with their blood since then till now. The crop is now almost ripened and when Christians will accept Islam, they will reap this crop which is sown by Muslims. This is to my understanding of this GIFT matter. The rest, Allah knows better. ❤Chao❤

Jesus' Teachings vs. Evangelical Political Priorities 1. Religious Freedom What Jesus Taught: Jesus did not focus on securing religious freedoms or governmental protections for his followers. In fact, he warned of persecution and taught his followers to expect it (John 15:18-20). His focus was on living a life of love, service, and sacrifice regardless of political circumstances. Modern Evangelical Focus: The emphasis on religious freedom, while important to Evangelicals, is more of a political issue than a theological one based on Jesus' teachings. Jesus encouraged his followers to prioritize their faith over worldly concerns, including their rights or freedoms. 2. Pro-Life Advocacy What Jesus Taught: While Jesus valued life and expressed compassion for the vulnerable, he did not directly address the issue of abortion, which has become central to modern Christian politics. Jesus’ teachings focused on caring for the poor, the sick, and the marginalized (Matthew 25:31-46), emphasizing love and compassion for all people. Modern Evangelical Focus: The pro-life stance is a significant moral issue for Evangelicals, rooted in the belief that life begins at conception. However, the narrow focus on this issue sometimes overshadows Jesus’ broader teachings on caring for those in need throughout life. 3. Protection of Israel What Jesus Taught: Jesus did not advocate for the political protection of Israel. Instead, he spoke of a kingdom not of this world (John 18:36), encouraging his followers to focus on spiritual matters over earthly politics. Modern Evangelical Focus: Many Evangelicals see modern Israel as part of biblical prophecy, but this emphasis is more tied to interpretations of Revelation and Old Testament prophecy than to Jesus' own words. Jesus did not call for the protection of any nation but rather for the love of neighbor and the pursuit of God’s kingdom. 4. Strong Leadership What Jesus Taught: Jesus emphasized servant leadership, humility, and self-sacrifice. He washed his disciples’ feet as an example of how leaders should serve others (John 13:1-17). His idea of leadership was radically different from the power dynamics of the world. Modern Evangelical Focus: Trump’s strong, assertive leadership style contrasts sharply with Jesus' example of humility and meekness. Evangelicals often justify this by claiming that Trump’s strength is necessary to protect their values, even if it’s not consistent with Christ’s teachings. Jesus' Core Values Jesus' teachings, especially as outlined in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7), emphasize values such as: Humility: "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth" (Matthew 5:5). Peacemaking: "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God" (Matthew 5:9). Loving Enemies: "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you" (Matthew 5:44). Generosity to the Poor: Jesus consistently prioritized caring for the poor, healing the sick, and welcoming the marginalized (Luke 4:18). Detachment from Wealth: Jesus warned about the dangers of wealth and materialism, teaching that it’s easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 19:24). The Disconnect The disconnect between Jesus' teachings and the values used to justify support for Trump lies in the focus on political power and cultural battles over the relational and spiritual principles that Jesus emphasized. The emphasis on power, control, and security is more aligned with worldly concerns than the radical love, humility, and service Jesus demonstrated. Wealth: Jesus consistently warned against the pursuit of wealth and the temptation to accumulate material possessions. Trump's wealth and opulence stand in contrast to Jesus' call for simplicity and generosity. Jesus spent time with the poor and disenfranchised, whereas Trump’s policies and personal life appear to align more with the wealthy and powerful. Compassion and Kindness: The Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), which include love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and self-control, reflect how Jesus lived. Trump’s behavior - particularly his frequent use of harsh rhetoric and lack of empathy - often contradicts these virtues. Conclusion While Evangelicals may point to Trump’s policies as protective of their values, these values are not fully reflective of the teachings of Jesus Christ. The Sermon on the Mount, the Fruits of the Spirit, and the life of Jesus show a radical, countercultural way of living that emphasizes love, humility, service, and a rejection of worldly power and wealth. In supporting Trump, Evangelicals often prioritize political outcomes over the relational and spiritual values Jesus called his followers to embody. Ultimately, this creates a tension between following Jesus’ teachings and pursuing political influence, and it raises questions about what it truly means to live a Christ-centered life in modern society.

The many self-identified "Evangelicals" who claimed that my father, an ordained American Baptist Association minister and who been the pastor of American Baptist churches in Philadelphia, PA, southern New Jersey and New Mexico, was not a Christian and was a follower of Satan because he was not an Evangelical has led me to despise Evangelicals and refer to them as CINOs (Christians In Name Only). An Evangelical pastor tried everything he could to shut down my father's Baptist church in Truth Or Consequences, New Mexico, to include frequently calling INS/ICE to raid my father's church for "sheltering illegal immigrants" (the majority of the congregation at my father's New Mexico church were Hispanic-Americans whose families had been American citizens for two or more generations).

God's rejection is of perfect finality and appropriate severity befitting all things and persons He has rejected. Being burned in an auto-da-f é is a mild fate lasting a few minutes. God's eternal condemnation is infinitely more grave and painful. A mere thing that is rejected cannot feel anything. A wooden log can burn, but it does not feel anything. A mocker is subject to perfect unspeakable agony everlasting.

IMHO: Your definition of "fundamentalist" is more in line with the later pejorative attachments to the name, & is not the historical meaning. For example, in the fundamentalist vs modernist controversy after WW-I, presbyterians were prominent (baby-sprinklers). Advocating legalistic restrictive behavior was not fundamentalism. The idea of fundamentalism was that there are a list of basic doctrines which a man must believe to be considered a Christian like: Bible = word of God, the Lord Jesus is YHWH & man, the Trinity, justification by faith, the resurrection, the substitutionary atonement. So if you believed those basics, you were a fundamentalist believing the fundamentals, but not insisting on uniformity in doctrine or practice in other non-basic areas (church government, water baptism mode, frequency of communion, color of the drapes, etc.)

How would you classify me? I consider scripture to inerrant, that is every word in the original text is there because God willed it to be, and is therefor true by definition. But I also realize that the bible is neither a history text nor a science text and should not be interpreted as such. In particular, I do not believe the earth was created in six literal days. What non-Christians disparagingly call "the story of Adam and Eve and the talking snake" is not a historical account, but its central message is quite true: humans have been defiant and have been separating themselves from God ever since humans have been human. Which means I am a sinner, and Jesus Christ is my Savior. How literal various Old Testament accounts are is an interesting question, but one's salvation does not depend on that. What is essential is knowing I am a sinner and Jesus Christ is my Savior, and acting accordingly to the extent God gives me the grace. Confronted with Jesus' question "...but who do you say I am", my answer is the same as Peter's: "You are the Christ, the son of the living God."
@RepublicofE3 жыл бұрын
I think you're dead wrong about how the Bible should be interpreted but there are a lot of evangelicals including evangelical preachers who do not think the Genesis story was six literal days (they usually do still believe it's a literal creation account with a literal Adam and Eve though.) Ironically the book of the Bible evangelicals interpret most literally is Revelation, when I would argue that Revelation is the least literal book in the Bible. In terms of "what does that make you", it's impossible to answer that for you without more information about what you believe as there are many people accross almost all denominations who share the views you have stated.
