@chickenmunt RC oscillators means oscillators based on resistors and capacitors. I described two such circuits in the video. There are hundreds more out there. If you meant that you want to know the math behind why oscillators are inherently unstable systems etc. well that's way too much to cover in 1 video.

Awesome video, helped me a lot. I just want to know did you make any adjustments to the NE555 circuit to power all those white LEDs for your rave? I made the same circuit and connected only 5 red LEDs but I don't know if the same exact circuit will work with a bunch of white LEDs. So yeah, did you make any adjustments? Thank you in advance, I really hope you answer because I really wanna host my own rave!!!

How would you use an oscillator in a switched mode power supply in which the duty cycle is determined by the difference between the output (measured by a voltage divider) and a Zener reference voltage?

*!! STUPID QUESTION ALERT !!* Would this be AC current since your changing the voltage back and forth and measuring it with frequencies? If so, could I use a transformer with batteries then since this will create an AC current?

@Afrotechmods I'm so sorry what I meant was to fully charge the 2 volt lead acid battery. The source of power is a 12 volt lead acid battery and I'm replacing the LED with a 2volt lead acid battery to be charge up.Thanks for the info.

for the electronc layman': An oscillator can be made from an amplfier with gain >1 but must be made with "POSITIVE feedback" that causes the amplifier to produce an AC OUTPUT , even when that circuit has NO external input .

First way I generated square waves was with an astable multivibrator made from BJTs. I didn't have any 555s at the time.

Hey!!!! Please can you tell me why when you put a capacitor on the output of the sine wave oscillator the waveform shown on the oscilloscope became positive and negative even if the output signal was only positive? The same circuit give me the same result but there's no way to power an LED in either directions! Thanks a lot!!!

Oscillator is something that creates oscillations. Oscillation is a fancy word for something moving back and forth.

What component values would one use to make the quadrature oscillator to produce less than 100Hz? Is it possible? Is there some kind of 555 timer circuit capable of quadrature oscillation?

In this circuit, the second opamp in your quadrature oscillator circuit is assumed to also be connected to 9V & GND, correct? Probably a quad opamp yes?

Thanks for the great content. Do you have pointers for building the quadrature oscillator? Am I having trouble because I'm using ua741 op-amps, and have guessed on how to adapt the inverting input voltage?

741 op amps are useless. Try an LM324 or better op amp.

​@@Afrotechmods I tried again with LM324 it's not perfect but it works! I put a potentiometer at the voltage divider. By adjusting the pot, I can either get good looking peaks, or good looking troughs, but not both. I'm still pretty stoked!

Hi!!! Can I use the pin 3 of this 555 oscillator to trigger the gate of N channel MOSFET? ( IRFZ 44) I would like to trickle charge a 2 volt lead acid battery from a 12 volt Battery.The load will be the 2 volt lead acid battery. THANKS

Buffered by a ttl IC and viewed on a high freq scope, I am hard pressed to find anything that is not a square wave. Maybe if you add a low pass filter or something... ;) but when you take a probe and look at the crystal you showed as a pic, you get a sin wav. PS. Does your railgun still work?

If it does work it won't be very effective. Radiowaves are usually made with sine waves, not square waves

Can I use a 1uf capacitor I can't find 101 capacitor anywhere on the old boards I have. All I can find are 102, 103, 104 and so on

+Totardo Tobing The voltage at the center of the waveform. It should be centered on 0v, if not, whatever its voltage is centered on is the DC offset.
