I find that the average customer has no idea what a detail is and all the work that it involves. I see so many Yelp 1-star reviews from customers who paid $40 for a "detail" and are upset that not every speck of dust is removed from the interior and exterior of the car. For $40, I think they should only expect an interior vacuum and maybe a wipe down, exterior wash and spray wax. If time allows, perhaps also cleaning the wheels. But that's it. If you want me to clean the headliner, the interior windows to absolute perfection, the cup holders, apply interior trim shine/protection, vacuum the trunk, clean the door jambs, etc.....I'm going to need a few more hours and more than $40. I think we need more videos like this. Explaining to a consumer what a detail actually is, how long it actually takes, and why it can be costly.

Darren, I'm starting a mobile auto detailing business for the next summer. I have a passion for cars and cleaning them. And you have helped me understand the business of auto detailing. Thank you. I have one question. How do you show/tell/convince your customer what detail package or service is right for them? I'm baffled. Do you have real life video examples?

Great info Darren - out of curiosity how often would you detail and or clean the interior of your wife's car? Once a week, twice a month or as needed? The inside looks pretty darn impressive for the length of time. What's a good rule of thumb? Thank in advance.

Do you clay bar every car do you before you do anything to the paint?
@autofetishdetail8 жыл бұрын
It would be like washing dirt off of a surface before you paint it. ( a very over-simplified explanation; but I think it will help)

Nah, I had an 87 Cavalier, daily driver in the winter too...then a 2000 Grand Prix. Drove both cars to almost 200K miles. There was some minor rust under the car but if cared for properly they won't rust out. It's all about how well you maintain your vehicle from the start. My regimen included weekly washes that included an a bottom blast of the car. Besides that, kept it waxed and WD40 in the drain holes in the doors so water wouldn't collect and begin corrosion. To your point, most cars don't last that long because people neglect their cars. The general pubic see them as commodities made for point a to b and family haulers.

Hello Darren! I'm Andrew I'm 18 years young and I am starting a Detailing business here in Downtown LA . Where the market is full of so called detailers who offer prices that really are unbeatable. And customers won't give me a shot because M prices are "expensive" compared to others. What do you recommend? What can I do to find the right customers . Customers who value quality over quantity. Please reply whenever you have a chance . Thank you!

In sunny Southern California a 173k car can look like this with regular details, here in central Illinois a 173k mike car is pointless to maintain like this unless its never outside cause usually its a rust bucket or falling apart
@jeremiahmoore67498 жыл бұрын
Jason Rushing exactly. I own a Detailing business, and a couple car lots. in the Midwest (rust belt), especially north of here in Indy, these exact same Benz and miles have tons of rust. even 1 owner ones. the ones from Chicago/Wis/Mich are horribly corroded. then when we see them from our auction in Texas they are completely rust free. it's like they came from a different planet. people from warm climates don't understand.
@jacobbuchanan53228 жыл бұрын
Jeremiah Moore if someone were to undercoat a car when they first buy it in the rust belt would it help? I always feel like undercoating is a temporary, do-it-every-year thing. If that was the case the owner would have to be pretty proactive. Any suggestions? I live in a very snowy place: Utah.

I personally think a ''detailer'' gets a bad rap due to the typical ''in and out'' detail for 20 dollers. I try to think more of it as a ''paint correction restoration''. At least were i am.

WHY DO I ALWAYS END UP WITH OIL ON MY WINDOWS
@autofetishdetail5 ай бұрын
I doubt it is actually oil. I suspect what you are observing is a "greasy-like" film that is a very common problem. I also suspect it is a byproduct of what is called "out-gassing" of the materials within your car's interior. The materials emit gasses due to the composition of the how the materials are made. You can use rubbing alcohol and water (50/50 blend) to cut the greasy film, and then just follow-up with regular tap water and microfiber cloth.

I just spent over $500 and my car looks terrible.😭 I feel they destroyed it by overwashing the leather and painted over it but it looks unnatural. Paint doesn't match and the muffler got painted on.😭

@SKITTL 3Z a local company Mission Auto detailing in Escondido, CA. If you look at their website, everything seems legit but its far from it. The guy maybe didn't do it on purpose, but don't advertise something its not. It mentions bumper repair and thats what I asked for. He claimed he was doing me the favor when I didn't ask for one. I just went off of what it shows. I detailed it myself and it came out better but the damage is done and it will never be the same..
