@@silverbowftw5225 honestly, my sole goal is to better the world by using biochemistry in the pharmaceutical industry to improve drugs and vaccines. The thought of knowing everything around me and what it could be made of and how it reacts with everything else gives me a feeling of purpose and power. That's what motivates me. People will try and withhold u from the top, it's up to you to decide where u will stop your climb.

From the comments I have read so far, we all seem to have similar problem understanding what exactly biochemical engineers do but it does seem so interesting that we can't but care about its existence in the grey

I want to ask this question as I don't know many things about carrier opportunities. In our country, there's physical science stream (math,physics,chemistry) and bio science stream (bio science,physics,chemistry) for advanced level. I'm doing in physical science stream. Can I be a bio chemical engineer one day by studying in this stream or do I have to study in bio science stream?

i hope this comment section is a fitting place for questions. in the first part you mentioned getting contacted by people who developed a new drug and are looking for a process that will enable it's production; will your role as a biochemical engineer be to look into the process, identify the components and look into the biological and chemical databases to try & find an efficient way to achieve these processes? in the second part, as one of the opportunities, you mentioned working on a vaccine; from the first part i sort of got the idea that you will not be inventing the drug as much as you will be inventing the process that enables it's production; is that what you meant in the second part, too? or do you mean you can work on inventing the drug itself, too? i'd love to hear more about the spectrum of thing you can do as a biochemical engineer. this is a good video.

Is Pharmacy and biochemical engineering similar?

There are things in common to both topics but they are quite different degrees - but in practice Pharmacists and Biochemical Engineers work together all the time! Pharmacists are healthcare professionals which is not the case for biochemical engineers. Nope, biomedical engineering degrees cover a very large range of topics and do not go as deep into particular niches as biochemical degrees do.

They have a focus more-so on the macro scale of prosthetics and artificial organs etc whereas biochemical is more on the molecular level
