Bipolar II is a less severe form of bipolar I disorder. Rather than full-blown mania, sufferers experience hypomania, a low-grade form of hyperactivity. mental.healthguru.com/

That's why I gave the thumbs down.. I always felt hypomanic was "normal"! I have had years straight of terrible indifference and depression. I thought I was just feeling grey. Problem is that triggers for depression greatly increased the risks for the depressive episodes. When I got hypomanic I felt lucky and they only lasted for short periods. I'm doing much better with Zeprexa and Lamotrigine. I also take Adderall for ADD symptoms basically the no motivation and indifference part and that has helped me to cope with this terrible condition. I can get things done now. When I have like a few normal days in a row I feel like a human now. It was terrible and I was in denial for more than 20 years. No one should have to live the way I did for so long. People that haven't experience BP II disorder really can't imagine or understand it.

I have rapid cycling bipolar II disorder and have been on a treatment regiment including medication, diet, exercise, and working on changing my thought process when needed. It's a tough road, but treatment is possible. I urge everyone not to self diagnose and to seek medical attention. I was diagnosed originally as having severe depression until I realized that my manic stages were not my personality traits. I wish everyone well and good health struggling with a mental disorder

It is not less severe. The depressions are much more severe and last longer than in bipolar 1. The mania is less severe, the disorder is NOT.

I wish I could remove this video from KZbin for spreading misconceptions about bipolar 2. If bipolar 2 patients spend significantly "more time in depressed episodes" than bipolar 1 counterparts, that's pretty shitty. Why categorize either as mild or severe. That's bullshit!

Hypomania is tough. You can feel wonderful and irritable at the same time. It can be very confusing. I was hypomanic for months and I battled with myself about whether I should tell my doctor or not. I finally made a pro and con list and took that to my Dr. she helped me adjust my medication and now I am in a much more comfortable state. Hypomania is not all fun and games.

I've been diagnosed with severe depression but I feel like I may have BP2. I go through weeks or about a month of severe depression and then I'll go through a few days, at most a week, of feeling slightly numb and on the edge and I usually function far better. Sometimes these elevated feelings are much stronger but these times they don't last as long. I often feel like I'm 'high' when they are the strongest and my main symptom of just a definite increase in energy and the absence of the usual darkness I experience. Does this sound like BP2? I feel like it is and all the treatments for MDD haven't worked. Just thought I'd get another opinion.

ANYONE PLEASE TELL ME: I experience depression/worry/anxiety often...however my sex drive is EXTREMELY high when depressed and it's very low when I feel fine and happy, which seems to be the opposite of what bipolar people feel like? I also need at least 7 hours of sleep, whether depr or happy. And I really can't call any of my happy times manic in any way. I just feel inspired, motivated and happy, that's all. Never felt being out of control, always 100% myself. Am I some form of BP?

What is the best treatment for bipolar 2? My dad is bipolar 1 and I just realized after all of these years that I am bipolar 2 and my son could be bipolar 1. I never thought of myself as bipolar because I am not manic but I have avoidant personality disorder which I think could be the Bipolar 2. What is the best treatment for both? If you can control yourself, that's fine. However, the problem with Bipolar people is their tendency to "think" they got it all under control during hypomanic/manic episodes, only to realize they're not when they fall into deep depression and are tempted to commit suicide. Sometimes the pills are your only choice, and it's a fact that it's saved a lot of lives.

personally i would rather take pills to make my symptoms three times worse than take the mood stabilising pills that make you feel tired and like a zombie all the time. ill settle for just having psychotherapy and not take the mood stabilizers or antidepressants. sure, its more risky but for me i feel its a much better treatment option if i get it to work.

@storegutt13 probably. if you get put on meds I'd recommend abilify. It's damn expensive though. if you live outside of america tho it will be cheaper. my mood swings sound like yours. I've been on a lot of SSRI's and an SNRI but they didn't improve my mood. Abilify worked wonders tho. It works fast too. it's not perfect but, it's something. good luck.

I have Bipolar II. Camilla, if you suffer from this disorder you would know the pain and the confusion you had. Everyone is trying to find out what their life means. Give the people who suffer too, a break. maybe they do, maybe they don't. leave it for the professionals to have that say.. You're frustrated i can sense that, let them figure it out.

This is such bullshit. Suicide percentages among bipolar 2 are higher than bipolar 1 AND major depression. It goes undiagnosed, and thus untreated, much more often because the cycles are less easy to recognize, in particular the hypomanic states (which often don’t present in the widely assumed constant stream of pleasurable energy, but instead heightened levels of irritability and anxiety). On top of that, the major cognitive and social functions are often significantly impaired, and this worsens the longer someone goes without proper treatment. Because of this impairment someone suffering from bipolar can find it very hard to vocalize what they experience, remember experiences properly, and recognize their own patterns. The stigma, misunderstanding and often frustration and/or judgment from the outside world is much worse. People tend to know bipolar 1, the crazed manic highs. That is what the media tends to portray. This regularly leads those who suffer from bipolar 2 AND those who don’t to refuse to recognize the reality and severity of the illness. Can you imagine? Being that ill, that impaired, and being expected to keep functioning like those around you and punished or judged when you can’t? Can you imagine what that does to the excessive guilt that already works so hard to absolutely destroy someone who is in a lengthy and debilitating depressive episode? I don’t mean to dismiss the severity and devastating effects of bipolar 1. But especially with type 2 being the most prevalent form of bipolar disorder, it demands to be taken MUCH more seriously than this video would have you believe. Shame on any “professional” who uses this sort of language. It is downright damaging.

famous: Speak to the Dr's, adapting to meds is an unpleasant experience but just the conversations alone that you'll have with people that understand your (potential) condition can be extremely uplifting. Having the condition IS disabling to a lot of BP2 sufferers (like myself). It is NOT going to go away on it's own. It IS going to get worse (left untreated it's a progressive, degenerative illness with the highest rate of suicide among mental health patients - Google)

Just seeing if based on the way you're acting, you're prepared to have everyone see you as the bad guy. You don't leave a real positive impression here. I don't really care about any of this, to be honest, but it's kind of amusing watching you insult others on a youtube video, trying to garner sympathy because your life sucks, then being surprised that others see you as bad.

By the way, your information is off. The only milder thing about Bipolar II compared to Bipolar I is the hypomania rather than mania. The depression is still the same. Actually, more often than not, it's lengthier. You don't honestly expect anyone to respect or understand you, based on the way you're acting, do you?
