Thank you. This video has reassured me that foxing will not spread like mold would. My practice is to sandpaper it away, if it hasn't penetrated too deeply. The resulting "clean look" is quite satisfying.

I love foxing, it's like the book is a snowflake and different from all the other books only it's with rust and age.

Very helpful! I usually watch your videos on the tv so never get to comment or give a thumbs up. But I love all of them - just super. Thanks!

Just started adding this description to some of my listings. Better to be clear about condition.

Thank you very much for the foxing description. I'm new to book resale and picked up some awesome vintage sci-fi hardcovers that had some pretty significant foxing. I wasn't sure if it was worth trying to remove it somehow (there seem to be videos out there on that) vs listing and just letting it ride; I guess that depends on the effort required and risk of screwing up the book vs whatever reward results from a higher sale price.

I use distilled water, Immacuclean comic cleaner and 3% hydrogen peroxide which helps reduce foxing on comics

Some people say it is dangerous like mold 😖 should I be careful with my books that has foxing on it? If I smell them it only smell like old paper, nothing gross at all.

How do you know difference of mould and foxing. I have it due to humidity. Its on dvd cases, in board game boxes and my books. Its reddy orangey in colour. Some look crusty other smooth. How do i know. Is it damp reacting with mentals in paper or card or is it mould.
@curatorofthelost7 ай бұрын
With humidity and what you describe, I would be thinking mold. Especially since it is crusty. If you have damp odor too I would definitely think mold. be careful.
@HumbleBee1237 ай бұрын
Some of them have crusty but many dont. Is has a musty smell but many look smooth and just like foxing, same colour too. But some crusty. So guess i should assume all of it is mould. Is all over my house. Many dvds, board games, books, metal rusting. Ive got a digital humidity reader now. Which has fluctuated between 44%-58% Problem is that my living room is open plan with kitchen. Think i will have to just except mould is going to be an ongoing battle.

I have brown spots on the face of the pages on a bunch of books. Not just on the edge. Thoughts?
@curatorofthelost Жыл бұрын
Could still be iron oxidation effects on the paper- especially for older books
@stadtjer68911 ай бұрын
@@curatorofthelostis there any way to restore such pages? I just bought a photography book from 1968, that has brown spots on almost every page. Especially in such a visually oriented book, these spots are obviously quite bothersome

It is often caused by mold and mildew. You should toss it.
