When I saw the "Wednesday Cake" she made I had to take some steps back bcs I was so impressed by the audacity of this woman. Being well off with their partner, one of the two has a slightly higher income, so they have money to spare or either ones parents are well off & wanted to help; either way someone should have said if you're planning on opening a business then employ another Baker so you can get things going & also learn. This has passon project written all over it. She said, it wasn't planned & the opportunity came around, but again someone should have said something. I know it hurts people's ego, but you need honest feedback. Talk to everyone you've ever done a cake for & ask for brutal honestly, because you can't learn to improve otherwise. Everyone in every industry ever always has room for improvement.

I used to make fondant cakes (fairy castle, 'fried' breakfast' etc) as a hobby years ago and even then you could get plaques of fondoant with the writing done for you to put on top, she could have done that. Frosting and sprinkles is literally the easiest thing you can do! x

that's what you're supposed to do!! it even works great for doing a bunch of different designs and creating a portfolio when you still don't have many orders to post/advertise. you're NOT supposed to test on orders (unless the client agrees to it and you actually put the effort to make it look good), it's just dishonest with yourself and your skills and specially with the client who expects the quality to match the price they're paying!! kylie could improve so much if she actually listened to the criticism and ADVICE a bunch of bakers and marketing professionals are giving her, but her pride is in the way 🙃

My sister was a self taught baker and she was great, God rest her soul! She made my daughters birthday cakes. She made a twilight cake and that was awesome. These cakes were huge and charged me no more than 50.00. Thats including cake pops and cupcakes. 10.00 for gas because she wasnt working and was diagnosed with cancer so i wanted to support her in every way i could. She also made tamales 🫔 that were to die for. She made a killing on holidays. I miss my sis. If she would be here now, she would have a thriving business on Tiktok

I'm no baking expert but I have been baking and love baking for the majority of my life and I dunno i feel like she makes a lot of rookie errors with it that you wouldn't do even if you taught yourself from KZbin/ learnt from your mistakes. Like I can't see any simple syrup (to help cake dryness), dowels (for cake structure) or the fact she applies the black icing before the pink (this is personal preference i just feel like you're less likely to smudge and mix that way). Obviously they're all optional changes but I really think they'd help her here. Her tone isn't the best I will say. Feel better Angelika 💗

i’ll also just add that this baker is located in a town in southern West Virginia, which is a state where items are typically priced lower than places such as NY or CA. so charging $80 for an 8 inch cake is ridiculous compared to the cost of living in the area, not even taking into consideration the talent level or price comparison to other bakeries in the state that have degrees in the field.

I'm from southwestern VA/southern WV, born in Princeton. I can tell you $80 for a cake is insane. For $80 I'd expect an incredible cake that looks so good I don't even want to cut it. I'm not expecting a Cake Boss kind of cake, but something better than what I could do. I could get a bigger and better looking cake from Walmart, and probably for cheaper. The cost of gas it'd take for me to drive 30ish minutes to Princeton to pick up that cake isn't even worth it. I bet I could drive to a bigger city like Beckley or Blacksburg and find a better cake for less.

as an aside, a lot of bakers do use box mix. there are plenty of ways to use it with different ingredients than on the instructions which make it taste a LOT better than basic box mix. that being said, GIRL $80??? ain’t no way…

Icl,based on witnessing my mum as a cake artist, bespoke cake prices tend to go from £30+ here. Usually £30 is basic butter cream with the name and perhaps fondant. I’d say a cake like that would be able £40 MOST and like … done neater ?? I’ve seem crazy cake customers where the ruin the cake taking it home and come back demanding refund or fixing it free of charge when it was the customers fault. However, it’s so clear here that the fault is of the baker and she DEFO should have given some form of discount or offered to redo it or SOMETHING. Lowkey a child could make a cake like that after some basic training 💀💀

my grandmother is also a selftaught baker, she does cakes for all sorts of occasions. Her first ever cake was my mum and dads wedding cake and it looked perfect so I don't know how this woman can be so bad after 5 years of baking.
