This sunspot gave me the most breathtaking aurora I've ever witnessed over germany. It was mesmerizing and so bright, one could easily read newspaper under it. All those colours it produced are something I'll never forget. Thank you AR3664 for the G5 storm you produced this night.

@@DylanODonnell just a few minutes ago it produced an X5.89 Flare. I'm waiting for SOHO/LASCO imagery to be updated, but i can already see another CME from an earlier eruption. This may not be the end of AR3664 :) I did a short video of it, it was that bright. Can't wait for the hundreds of pictures i took! Especially one where a bright fireball went right through the Aurora.

@@meloney wow! Does this mean an extension to aurora?
@meloney8 ай бұрын
@@davepastern yes likely. We captured a partial- but potential full Halo CME from that Sunspot with an earth directed component. It should arrive today (12) later in the evening (europe) or early/somewhere around the 13. That sunspot is a banger with big flares and eruptive CMEs :) I have a few shorts how the aurorae looked. It was really bright. I might upload the CME later too. We are essentially not yet done with geomagnetic storming! And all of that when i still have to work on all the hundreds of photos i took... :)

Fantastic images of solar flares and sun spots. ".....Although X is the last letter, there are flares more than 10 times the power of an X1, so X-class flares can go higher than 9. The most powerful flare measured with modern methods was in 2003, during the last solar maximum, and it was so powerful that it overloaded the sensors measuring it. The sensors cut out at X28."
