What is CG Animation?

There's a lot more to anime than just pencil and paper. But did you know that most of what we think of as "hand-drawn" anime is already CG animation?

CG in anime doesn't always end well and can sometimes look very low quality. But when it does work out it can look pretty amazing. E.g. Land of the lustrous and every dynamic shot in AoT ( from the the top of my head). I lke CG in anime but only if done right.

Katleho Tshita I do agree, but there are some very rare instances where bad CG animation works for the anime like Overlord. Yes the CG is terrible but you have to admit sometimes it’s either funny to watch the bad animation or cower in fear.

The reason cg often looks bad is that cg needs to be moved on every frame so that it doesn't look strange and thats why it often looks bad in 2d animated anime because anime tends to use a smaller frame rates then its western counter parts using less movements. To successful incorporate cgi, into 2d animation one must not reduce the quality of the cg, but increase the frame rate of 2D animation and add more key frames to match. CGI ins't bad, its just how it is used in a show

CG is awesome, but I stick to 2D animation

As someone who does do 3D modeling, I say I like it in video games but hate it in animation. Even MoCaps still leave a lot of uncanniness in motion, puppet style animation can be done well but I still can't see it taking over hand drawn animation any time soon. My favorite anime are from the years 1958 (with the founding of Toei), 1979 (with Rose of Versailles and the first Gundam) and generally anything made in the 80s is worth my time.
