CL2 is pretty benighn compaired to the horror of GB (sarin) and VX, but you are correct about it being more likely for the average person to encounter due to it's massive industrial usage. I think I told you before that we had a railway incident close by my home where some chemical gas was leaked in to the local environment. The authority's ordered the evacuation of people living in certain Zip codes. Fortunately mine was not one ordered to evacuate, but it was very close. They got it under control in fairly short order. So thank goodness for that. One thing about CL2, it is very dense and slow moving as far as gas goes, so it should be easy to escape or evade. Since it is denser than air it will automatically find the lowest ground. You should find something to climb if you cannot escape a contaminated aria. You don't even have to go very high either. Just go up a flight of stairs or get on top of a tall vehicle like a lorry. I worked in this industrial facility that had a refrigerated aria so we had these huge tanks on site that were charged with high pressure refrigerant like Freon. We had saftey briefings and drills once and awhile. I was told by an older employee that if those tanks ever failed we wouldnt know about it anyway because we would already be dead. Not comforting to know. Freon moves faster than CL2 is odorless colorless and not only displaces the O2 in the environment but depletes it through your skin also. The only way to deal with it was to just hope nothing ever happened and try not to think about it to much.

If it displaces the oxygen, then airpacks (SCBA's) should be required for workplaces that handles that kind of stuff. A couple of places I worked in my younger days had at least a couple of Scott IIa's on site for maintenance personnel.

While Fritz Haber was a driving force in chemical weapons he did do some good in his life. He created the Haber process for producing ammonia much more easily on a large scale. This is very useful in the production of chemical based fertiliser. So while he killed many people with chlorine, he has also saved thousands if not millions from starvation.

How long does Chlorine gas last once it becomes airborne?
@Weaponsandstuff93
@Weaponsandstuff93 7 жыл бұрын
That would totally depend on air moisture, wind etc.
@TheOwlGilga
@TheOwlGilga 7 жыл бұрын
Depends mostly on sunlight, sunlight creates chlorine radicals because the UV radiation snaps the bonds, the radicals will bind with anything and that will make the gas slowly fade out. It also sinks as it's heavier than air, that is why hopping into craters of artillery shells was very dangerous after a gas attack and long after if the sky was covered.

If you boiled pool.chlorene would it be the same as in chemical warfare? Good video
@williw.5815
@williw.5815 7 жыл бұрын
LappBricks No, I think the pool stuff is a chemical combination because it would be really dangerous otherwise. Also it is solid, and Chlorine is a gas in its elemental form (not actually elemental but thats something different) thus it's propably something else. Another point would be that the pool stuff disolves in the water, wich would not happen with actual chlorine because it would form salt-acid with the water (HCl, hence the weaponization). To get actual chlorine out of that stuff, you'd need to research what that pool stuff actually is and find a chemical procedure that would split the Chlorine from what's it combined with.( Molekules and stuff) BUT, you should definitely NOT do that at all. This comment was just intended to answer your question. I might be wrong about that, someone with greater knowledge about chemistry will be able to give you the right answer, if mine has not been correct. Just correct me, if I am wrong. Furthermore do I not carry any responsibility for your actions. Please don't do something stupid...

I have been looking at your video on German gas masks for a bit and I saw that you said that on the volksmask 37 they used asbestos weave inside the mask. I was wondering if the weird cork looking material on the German M65's filter port is that same stuff or if it is infact just cork. Sorry to bother you but I couldn't get a good enough look at the weave in the video to see for myself if it is what is on the m65.

Tear gas hurts because it usually uses irritants similar to spice, chlorine gas turns into acid when it comes into contact with water. If there is enough to be able to reach your lungs without reacting with the mucus in your throat then you will drown in acid.
