Universities have specific degree's of different kinds that you can pursue for Masters level or PhD level programs. Also, various summer schools can be a good option. One excellent option is the Neuromatch Academy - academy.neuromatch.io/

Is there a open source resource where one can access some of these simulated models?

Research teams that work on computational projects often provide access to the code (by often mentioning the details in supplementary materials of their research papers, providing the links to git hub repositories consisting the code files etc) that they have used to simulate the computational models discussed in their papers. Our recommendation is if you have a specific type of computational models you would like to learn about, then search for research papers in that area and try and access the supplementary material and the git repositories that provide the code for the models discussed in the paper. You can then easily download the code of the model from the git repositories and run it in your computer. Some things to consider though: - Some computational model codes cannot be run in laptops/PC's generally used, and need High computing power computer because they are computationally expensive (i.e., need more computational power e.g., in terms of time). - To be able to simulate the models from the code provided in a research paper, one must have some knowledge about how to use git hub and the programming language in which the computational model code is written (in order to understand how the model works and how to run it). Additionally, there are many tutorials on how one can write their own code to simulate a model. A good starting place is trying to simulate a single neuron. I wonder do researchers and scientists still use Matlab for model simulations such as areas described here? Matlab used to be "The Thing" but now with all the open source libraries available, and the existence of Github repository, MatLab seems to fad away. Any opinion?

Matlab is one possible programming language that is used in the field for model simulation. Indeed there are free and open-source libraries and languages such as Python and in some cases R (although R is more commonly used for data analysis and statistical modelling as compared to model development of cognitive processes). Additionally, there are Graphical User Interface style pre-coded softwares being developed as well that allow researchers to test their predictions and estimate parameters for classically established computational neuroscience models. Hi! Thanks for the comments. The field of computational neuroscience is a fascinating one and its fast growing as well. Some universities have specialised degree's focusing in the same. I did my Masters in Cognitive Computational Neuroscience and BSc in Psychology from the University of Sheffield in UK. Currently I am doing a PhD in Cognitive and Experimental Psychology and Big Data in Belgium, which involves Machine Learning as well. So the opportunities and possibilities are truly endless. So, whichever pathway you would like to choose will depend on your interest and passion. If you are looking for some introductory courses in the field I suggest checking out - @NeuromatchAcademy youtube channel and online course which they run every year in June - July. Other than this you can also find resources in online course platforms like Coursera and Udemy. Hope this helps!

I would say get a cell/molecular biology degree with lots of math electives as an undergrad. Then go do a masters in data science. You will be prepared for a PhD in probably any computational biology field. This is a realistic video. Don't forget to learn Java, people!!!
