This is quite interesting. As someone learning to apply this knowledge for a startup, the concept of idea "platform" seem kind of confusing to me, as I get platform and channel mixed up. Great video!

Yeah I can imagine in the start up world the word platform could mean something totally different, we just don't see that as much in advertising agencies.

Anyone can be a creative strategist! I find that a lot of creatives find it an easier transition, the other area is social media. I find a lot of people coming from there are already thinking about the message and the medium at once.

I really want to apply for a role in this field I mean my whole life is in the creative field as a visual merchandiser & in the retail fashion industry for 10+years. I am self taught when it comes to digital editing but overall w/ my experiences I can storytell a brands story, I currently do this now as a VM/store manager of a brand my only set back is having non-marketing education which most companies look for.

Julian, a lot of what you put forward, which was super helpful, to me overlapped with communications planning. Not so much the idea statement but the channel, tactics, ecosystem components. Fair to say those two planning roles overlap, or do you see a clear distinction?

Hey Dave, I agree there is a lot of overlap with the comms planning role. I would say the nuance with comms planning is they work closer with the media planners and also work up the front more with the comms framework which are created before the creative idea. Some creative strategists do these roles as well but I don't think they see it as a mandatory.

If you are a student then you could do the Miami Ad School, if you are a practicing strategist then I run the Planning Dirty Academy and have over 1,000 strategists who are members.
