What is Crystal Field Stabilization Energy (CFSE) ?

Decrease in energy achieved by the preferential filling of electrons in lower laying d orbitals is called crystal field stabilisation energy (CFSE).
CFSE is usually calculated by assigning a value of -4Dq for each electron placed in t2g orbitals and a value of +6Dq for each electron placed in eg orbitals.
First is d1 configuration where there is only 1 electron in d orbitals, it is filled in lowest t2g orbitals in both cases, even in weak field and strong field. If we calculate the crystal field stabilisation energy, it will be for one electron in t2g orbital so 1x-4 and zero electrons in eg orbitals so 0x6 which comes -4Dq. This means the average energy is reduced by -4Dq. As the energy is reduced the molecule is stabilised.

Thank you for the explanation sir. I have one question, if a complex has two different strengths of ligands, one is strong and another one is weak field ligand, how to calculate the cfse? For example [cr(NH3)5cl]^2+ .
