thanks for this also another overlooked framework based on juce is HISE audio - It's free to use under gpl3 or you can purchase a commercial license from the creator

Thank you for commenting. HISE seems to be very powerful, unfortunately for myself as someone who is not too well versed in scripting or programming I found it a bit too dense to easily get myself into, But I have seen it used effectively in developing your own VST instruments. As accessibility goes, I'm not certain how accessible it is, but being more advanced I suspect someone with the right knowledge could build accessible instruments from it. Though that still limits those of use in communities like Pianobook, or producers and composers looking to create simple shareable tools for their whole audience. If I can learn HISE better I may use it as well, or else at least do some videos on the platform in future.

I just want to tell you that your drum kit is incredible. I've been struggling with making organic beats in FL. This kit helped me figure it out. Well done! Do you have any videos that help explain how to make the XML file that powers the sampler?

Thank you, I'm very glad it has been helpful to you. I assume You are referring to the .dspreset file that DS uses to find and voice the samples. I do not have one currently, Though it is actually one I intend to make, I actually have a script that I use in Creator Tools to convert it from a Kontakt instrument and then voice as needed, However, Dave Hilowitz has several and a conveniently simple user manual. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6mzg6B6lLeBebs www.decentsamples.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/format-documentation.html Hope these are helpful, I'll hopefully have one or two of my own up soon.

is there a way to do artificial legato?
@TrueNorthAudio
@TrueNorthAudio 11 ай бұрын
Yeah, There is a glide mode that you can add to the groups section that will do different types of glides/proto/legato.

is that script on the developer resources page?
@TrueNorthAudio
@TrueNorthAudio 11 ай бұрын
@@awndermusic Yes, Though I've not had a chance to mess with it yet, so I'm not sure off the top of my head how good it is. Though I'm sure that a lot of the tonal instruments you can find for it will include it as well, so you can look ash their scripts and study how they are implemented.

Hey man! Thanks for the video. Wanted to ask if there’s any way we can organise the sample library. I can’t find a way to put all the choir samples under one choir folder or the same with pads. Would be great if you could help out with this. Really appreciate the efforts. Thanks :)

If I understand your question correctly, What I've personally been doing is organising things manually in my DS Instrument folder. As features go, Dave, The creator of Decent Sampler, And many others, Are quite active in the Pianobook community Discord and both take suggestions and offer good community insight. Decent Sampler is very much an in progress program and has actually changed a ton even since making this video.

Can you comment on CPU usage? I run NOIRE on Kontakt Player on a Core i5/16GB RAM and it chokes if I use the sustain pedal too much. Which I need to when I play live. Would Decent Sampler be lighter for this kind of usage? Plenty of pianos to choose from too. Thanks!
@TrueNorthAudio
@TrueNorthAudio Жыл бұрын
I've not used a sustain pedal with it, so that specifically I can not confirm anything on, However DS is very light as software goes and pretty well optimised. Kontakt is built on a very old framework and sort of kept updated to preserve backwards compatibility, making it pretty bloated and slow. Kontakt is great, but it does have its drawbacks, and in my experience and understanding, It can be slow and clunky at time. on the other hand, It is free, so there is nothing lost giving a try and seeing how it serves you.

Does it read my midi pedal input? All instrument patches i tried dont work with the sustain pedal. Only the claustrophobic piano gives a pedal release sound when i use it, but no longer sustained notes what so ever. Can anyone help?

I'm not certain if what you are experiencing is a glitch, limitation or programming issue. I do know it can be written in, but I'm not sure on how advanced that kind of voicing can be made so far as all of my builds are percussion based so far and do not use it. This would be a question for the Decent Sampler Help channel in the Pianobook Discord or possibly reach out to Dave Hilowitz on. The Discord help thread is very handy though.

How can you make your own instrument?
@TrueNorthAudio
@TrueNorthAudio 2 жыл бұрын
I assume that you are asking how would you make one of these instruments, If so, I do plan on making a video soon on how I do it in DecentSampler. In short, Plan the samples and how you want to voice them, I personally use Kontakt as a developer tool as Decent Sampler has a mapping editor, But it's not functional yet, and once that is set I use the manual and videos Dave has, as well as some templates I've made to create the basic interface. DS is still a bit more script heavy, But it's still simple and well laid out. The only major issue being the current lack of a free developer tool unless you can make .EXS files in tx16ws. Otherwise with high sample counts like the keg we just made, or things like the tongue drum, It would be prohibitively tedious to have to write out the path for everything manually.

I started the process of downloading Decent Sampler to add to Ableton Live on my Windows PC. Unfortunately I received a prompt that said "Do Not Run, Program Unfamiliar, May Harm My PC". Is there any info out there on corrupted downloads for Decent Sampler? Or do you think this is a false positive? Any help is much appreciated.

I don't personally know the answer, but the Pianobook discord server is a great place to ask, the creator is pretty active there. Judging by context I assume it's a safety measure on windows that is trying to tell you that it's not made by a verified developer. It may just require a security override to say, yes, this software is safe. It is a small one man project for the most part, so it does not have all the extra licensing behind it that you would get with a major brand. But I'd start in the Pianobook discord, I imagine someone there would have the exact answer.

@@TrueNorthAudio Thanks for the response. I sent them a message. I hadn't heard back and decided to override the prompt. Everything is working just fine. I guess it simply did not recognize the software and was being cautious. In any event, I'm now exploring the creativity of this community. My favorite thing besides some of the instruments is to read the back stories. It's the very least I can do for all these free tools.
