I can’t ty enough for taking the time to make these videos. I live in a very conservative Christian area in the rural south. It’s one of those places whereby the first time you meet someone the first words they often want to know about you is where you attend church. I hate this area. I don’t fit in at all. I’ve always consider myself atheistic. But definitely have had to stay in the closet about my non belief. Anyway, I could type quite a long while on the struggles I’ve had living in this highly conservative Christian area…but just want to say ty for the videos. It gives me a way to practice Buddhism when I otherwise would not be able to.

Doug, I was rewatching this video and had an insight. I believe that samsara is the reality we’re all in, but then it seems that the dharma flows through samsara, or even is a superposition of “frequency”. We all get caught into daily problems, through desire and aversion, trying to find relief to our sufferings. But since dharma flows entangled with samsara, everywhere, we can “tune in” the frequency of dharma into our lives. It’s all together 😮😮

I have no morality to keep me in line. Never had never will. Im a genuinly good person not to seem like it in the eyes of another person. But becouse its genuinly what i wish for. I dont steal. I tend to think of the Dharma separate from the Buddhist teachings. I view the Dharma as what the Buddha was hoping to allow us to see through the path he discovered, rather tan to actually define the Dharma is. For instance, when I hear someone mention the triple gem, I view refuge in the Buddha to be refuge in his teaching, while refuge in the Dharma is refuge in those laws that govern our existence.
@DougsDharma4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I also think of the triple gem as essentially pointing to the dharma as the way the world is, or the ‘cosmos’ in the Greek sense of the term. I may do a video on that eventually.

Thanks for your thoughts Ravindra. I don't think Pāli is a language older than Sanskrit, since there were texts in Sanskrit composed before the Pāli Canon was, such as the Vedas (in Vedic Sanskrit) and the older Upaniṣads. Indeed Sanskrit was the sacred language of the Brahmins of the Buddha's day. The Buddha even seems to have forbidden his texts from being translated into Sanskrit, which I mentioned in an earlier video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Znuoma18m9Bgnck

Why secular and how secular, worship is absolute central to the religion. Devotion to something greater as an act of extreme adoration present in all religions is heavy in Buddhism in particular. This produces a sense of being brought closer which is essential to development. This is Sadhana a means of approach. You are also not separating Dharma from dharma.
@DougsDharma4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your thoughts Rigdze Namdrol. There are different emphases on worship in different Buddhist practices, as well as different understandings of what constitutes worship. It is generally less emphasized in Insight practice, and generally more emphasized in Mahāyāna practice for example.
@buddhisttarotrigdzenamdrol56204 жыл бұрын
Doug's Secular Dharma insight practice is vipashana that’s insight into tagathagarbha which is the great power that allievietes the suffering of the world or mahametta great compassion. Devotion to insight is worship, to exalt something as sacred and to sacrifice everything in honor of it through renunciation is offering. Offering is Puja. To let go of the most deeply cherished objects the poisons, skamdhas, and our very selves is the greatest most exalted offering. There is no deeper act of worship. Shamatha or concentration could be theoretically without worship but it is explained directly as the function which allows for the shedding of the poisons which is extraordinarily painful and involves confronting the manifestation of hell itself in our own anger and fear such a fight cannot be won without a transcendent ideal. The hero must worship something, hold something as greater and more sacred than life itself in order to face the threat of ceasing to exist.

the vanity of capitalism is a dharma, i think. its not something that encompasses who i am, it is , and will not cease by my actions. there is nothing that associates with me that causes it. it simply is. it is a product of actions culminated by souls not living within the right view. this is merely a force of nature, a noble truth. there is right and wrong action, a mundane interpretation. capitalism fosters poor view, and so it is not capitalsm, which is merely a system, and is transient. but the vanity . the product of a transitory system, that is the dharma. how did i go? am i seeing this ok>?

Buddha is a Philosopher Son of Sanatan Dharma ( Hinduism) Who says that I'm great and Better way of life is Non-violence, which is incompetent thought. Situation: Someone is Raping your Sister and you came in, now (1) if you will start Meditation in front of them - You are Buddha Follower (2) If you will kill that bastard Violently- You are Sanatan (Hindu) Complete Definition according to Buddhism: Non-violence is the Ultimate Religion Sanatan (Hinduism) Non-violence is ultimate Religion and Violence is even better in service to Religion (Humanity). Sanatan Dharm justifies Violence against Bad People but Buddha justifies Non-Violence against Criminals. Why everyone surprised when Buddists killed Muslims with Swords in Myanmar (Burma) ??? Because Buddha became the Good Son of Sanatan Dharma and justified Violence to save humanity. No Buddhist will digest this truth but in practical life you must have to be Violent against Terrorism. Anyhow it hurts their ego if we call them a part of Sanatan Dharma. I would suggest Buddhists to Corrupt their religious literature and Copy the rest of part Buddha Forgot in superiority complex. Your religion will become Completely Practical. Choice is yours life is yours and you have to save it at anycost. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

We can avoid dispute but what if there is no solution and enemy attacks us to kill us brutally??? Non-violence is great unless their is no other way to save humanity. We must fight, meditation is good to strengthen our Mind but we can't save our Sister from a Group of Rapists unless we kill them. Buddha helps us until we are safe, but Sanatan helps us in every good and bad situation. Why we keep armies?? Every Buddhist country should live peacefully without Army, is it possible??? We should always think Practical, Cowards run away at the time when we have to save innocent People, only warriors fight for the right. Please study Sri Madbhagwad Geeta, it justifies Violence against Evil. Sanatan is not all about Idol worshipping, only 30-40% people have that belief But belief is not a part of Dharma. I respect Buddha during peace and Support Violence against Evil. Violence against innocent is bad but against Criminals is best. There is a difference between Hate and Acceptance of Reality. Thanks millions for all these informative and inspiring videos. A lil quibble with this one: be careful of the word "dialect" ("Pali is a dialect of Sanskrit"). The word can be held as pejorative; some linguists hold that it would posit (Rgvedic ) Sanskrit as primary, thus maybe superior. Also it really doesn't apply here. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pali
@DougsDharma3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul, I’m not really sure how else to describe it succinctly, as that’s usually how I’ve heard it described. Indeed, even the Wiki uses the term ‘dialect’ non-pejoratively. Of course, I don’t mean anything pejorative by the term, nor do I consider any language superior to another. I’m aware it can sometimes be taken that way by people who don’t really understand linguistics.
