Started doing the same thing with a modular board project of mine in blender. I got tired of waiting for the creator to come out with stuff i wanted so i started learning blender to do it myself. Its been pretty successful so far.

One of the best parts of the hobby. I have a hint for people doing that for resin prints. Check layer by layer in the place where you mix the meshes of both models, because you don't want to leave holes/empty spaces in the middle of a print. Those one day will lead to your model exploding.

I run everything through Microsoft’s 3D Builder, then Simplify3D’s mesh repair, when I join pieces together digitally. Used to use Netfabb, which was great. Cheers,

I *adore* digital kitbashing. I do an absolute tonne of it, changing models i find online to work with OPR models, or just adding some variation. For my Makers Cult Valour Korps (French) army I wanted some female models so I used blender to add some curves to some of my models. Digital kitbashing opens up a whole new world of neat and unique models! I'd say somewhere between a quarter to a third of my overall HDF army is made up of models I kitbashed in some way or another.

My undead swamp boats came in 3 pieces and I connected them the same way!!!! I just ignored the warning and it just did it!!!

Why not just import the stls into blender and modify them there?

Blender is way too complicated to learn. Nobody has time for that.

Because blender makes my brain feel fuzzy. I will learn it one day. But today is not that day.
@TheTrollsCornerАй бұрын
@WarbossFitz I'm using it to edit models that have thin joints and parts to be thicker so they can survive my fdm printer until I cam get my resin setup going.

Have you tried Orca slicer for your FDM? It is pretty nice. I really like the paint on support feature.

I haven't heard of that but will look into it now

I have a small printer and a ant to cut some stl files up into chunks that are small enough to fit on my little build plate. Do you know of a way to do that? I could see that being handy to delete things like weapons and stitching new ones on too.
@WarbossFitzАй бұрын
That's what I use mesh mixer for. It's also possible in 3d builder. It lets you do a plane cut that cuts the model in half wherever you tell it to. Make sure you select to keep both half's.

Thanks Warboss, much appreciated. I love the channel.

Been 3D printing for years and had no idea this works. I used to use a Microsoft tool that they have since deleted. How do you deal with STL files that have a bunch of errors? Any trick to repair them? I get that a lot. Even from OPR.
@WarbossFitzАй бұрын
Microsoft 3d builder helps a lot with that, it's repair function has worked great for me so far. Then in chitubox there is a repair button that sometimes works, but sometimes breaks it entirely. Then it depends on the error. A hollow void is different than a single pixel unsupported that gets picked up on the next layer.

Have you tried

I do not enjoy supporting stls, which stops me from the digital kitbashing.
