In the UK in the early 90's Drum and Bass/Jungle was very fast, bpm's way past 140 , always with an 808 bass. If I recall correctly, D&B was more MC based, Jungle was more spacious and even ambient. This was very slow by that metric but all the elements of it were present.

Good song but it fits more into hip hop than drum and bass. Chase and status are legendary dnb producers though. Definitely jump into them and p money. A massive part of dnb doesn't have vocals and rap/grime dnb is a sub-genre

Chase and Status make more than drum and bass.. this track isnt DnB, def a hip hop drum pattern. DnB is around 170bpm and drum pattern has breaks, e.g. the Amen break that kinda defined the birth of Jungle/DnB!

1:28 - I haven't listened to the song yet but from what I've heard so far this is not a drum and bass bpm. DNB is much more flowing drums, double the tempo (160 - 180bpm) and because the drums are in a jazz pattern (that's what I have to say dnb is - electronic jazz, but a lot of it dry-heaving and dripping basslines that's made as sick and awkward as they can manage, check Optical's Moving 808's). You will have 'jazz step' drum and bass, look to old Roni Size tunes like Brown Paper Bag, Music Box, It's Jazzy (actual track title), Die's Special Treat, and then there's a ton on Creative Source that are amazing like Intense, Carlito, Big Bud, and Hidden Agenda. THEN - there's Metalheadz, Goldie's label, for which Platinum Breakz I IMHO is the bible of dnb, and the style is really chromed out and atmospheric (super-intelligent) where you've got the best crack-shots for classic UK dnb (Photek, Source Direct, Peshay, Doc Scott, Dillinja, Lemon D - legends), then with the more 'techstep' stuff (like Optical's 808's) there's his brother Matrix, Bad Company UK, it's a really deep genre and probably the most gratifying I've heard.

KSO man, if you claim to back the UK you need an education about this shit: Drum & Bass is the backbone of the UK scene, it’s super varied and is a complete melting pot just like the UK. Started in 94 when Goldie invented Jungle, playing speeded up breaks around 170bpm, this was an evolution of house that had speeded up into what is called hardcore. Jungle had much more of a groove and a hip hop influence & with huge Jamaican community in the UK it exploded into soundsystem culture +MDMA. MCs would toast at raves and eventually they got more lyrical. Jungle evolved into drum and bass that has cleaner drum pattens but the production level got pretty insane, way higher than Hip Hop did in the 90s. Jungle/Drum & Bass is the scene all the Grime OGs grew up in but the MC circuit was difficult to get onto. They got into Garage which was usually in room 2 of Drum & Bass rooms, which soon got bigger in the 00s and then evolved into grime. Hip Hop has been an influence in all of these scenes but no more than Dancehall, House, Techno. Fast forward to today, UK Drill flipped everything and progressed the level rhyming but the roots are still there even though most kids don’t even see it. This is Chase & Status doing a Hip Hop track but you can the level of production in their synths / mastering. There has been this crossover in the past, checkout Adam F & Redman - Smash Something Anyway if you bothered to read all that, you are a real one.
