Can you explain what EAS is? This is a really new thing on XDA and people are porting it over from the Google Pixel.. Peformance is alot better so is battery. What is the difference between HMP and EAS?
@GarySims7 жыл бұрын
I haven't done a video about that, but I wrote an article about EAS a while back: www.androidauthority.com/arm-bringing-energy-aware-scheduling-to-android-664926/ As for the difference between HMP and EAS: HMP is where you have different types of CPU cores in the same SoC (i.e. Cortex-A75 & Cortex-A55). EAS is the software that schedules processes on those cores, not only for performance but also for energy efficiency, hence Energy-Aware Scheduling.

I have a question : does the size of the transistor ( 45nm or 10nm ) affect its durability against heat from outside the processor .... like when you leave your phone on the dash under the sun's heat
@GarySims7 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. Leaving your phone in the sun and letting it heat up will do more damage to things like the motherboard and the display.

The question I would like to pose then is if this change is so good would it be worth holding off buying a new device until devices start using it? I guess this would depend on the market segment you are looking to buy into as you suggested the low and midrange devices could well be a much more capable than they are now but it may not change as much to the top end. I am guessing in this it does not have to be just 2 core types too and could have some high some mid and some low cores?
@GarySims7 жыл бұрын
Shawn, that is a good question and very hard to answer. The problem is this, whenever you buy a device, the devices that come out next year will always be better. If it isn't DynamIQ it will be something else. So you could wait and then buy a phone in Q1 2018, but by Q1 there could be other new innovations announced. It is a never ending cycle! As for the "2 core types" question. At the moment there are only two cores available, the Cortex-A75 and the A55, so we won't be seeing "3 core types" SoCs at the moment. However we might see different groups of A55 cores clocked at different max frequencies like the SoC makers do now for the octa-core A53 SoCs.
@shawns90707 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. For sure technology keeps progressing and if you wait for X tech Y will be around the corner. As I said I think it may well be worth waiting for if you are looking at the mid to lower end market assuming they actually do as you suggest. As for the other part I had assumed it might have been possible to somehow add say the older gen types but looks not. Still a super low clocked A55 to fall back to when you are only playing music or something else very lite could save a heap of battery. Then having an exact opposite A75 for intensive applications on demand would then make this a killer new tech I think.

Now the question is Kryo 280 vs Mongoose M2 vs Cortex A75 which core is more powerful ?
@GarySims7 жыл бұрын
The Kryo 280 is basically a Cortex-A73 and the M2's performance is on par with the Cortex-A73. So the Cortex-A75 will have higher performance than the Kryo 280 and the M2.

So I think the best arrangement for the two clusters is; 2 high performance cores(cortex A75) and 2 power efficient cores(cortex A55) per cluster.

Dont phones take 2 years to create? As in from concept to finished product. So wont we will probably see this in 2019 phones?
@GarySims7 жыл бұрын
That used to be true, but phone development times have increased rapidly. As I said in the video, it took just 8 months from when the Cortex-A73 was announced before it appeared in an actual device. However it is worth noting that a) Huawei will have had to access to the designs long before the official announcement b) Development versions and prototypes can be built using existing SoCs and then the SoC changed during the development cycle. So we will certainly see this in devices in Q1 of 2018.

So instead of creating two separate clusters, they are putting two groups of cores in the same cluster? :)
@RenatoLaporte7 жыл бұрын
I'm all for the configuration of 6 low power and 2 high power cores, where the 2 high power are sleeping by default, only activated when the system really needs. right now, on the S7, Samsung has 2 M1 cores always sleeping, but other 2 that are always idle, and they come to live (higher clock) very easily.

The low level hardware programming capabilities are amazing for ARM...too bad most Android phone manufacturers are horrible at optimising performance/power usage while keeping generally stable and compatible software capabilities.(Im mostly looking at you Samsung and Honor/Huawei). Get your act together. At least 8 updates trying to fix the missing Whatsapp notification bug and it never really fixed it because you want to compete with your stupid battery life optimisation by ruining software compatibility and stability.

l2etranger What ia wrong with you?! WiFi is like the most important thing besides Mobile Data.. Getting rid of it is going to take a whole new level of stupidity.. And I'm not talking about "removing the headphone jack" level stupid..
@l2etranger7 жыл бұрын
Amirul Azim please do elaborate, define "level of stupidity". I admire you haven't used profanities yet. Earlier s.o. mentioned 99% people using WiFi, income and knowledge are the main factors why there such a widespread implementation of one technology versus the alternative. Do you believe they've seen short waves radio before or know what dial-up is? It will take a celebrity to convince you and everyone else that I'm right. Don't get carried away in tech religion, time will make things happen much earlier. Keeping the headphone jack or removing it is a marketing analysis determined by platform ecosystems. Look at how quickly thunderbolt/lightening took off for computers, and also now flagship mobile devices sport one type-c connection, what are you going to do with all the other USB and adapters you've invested in? Let's keep things civil and enjoy our lives.
@azim27147 жыл бұрын
I2etranger Maybe we have different opinions because we live in different countries.. I live in Malaysia and only some of us are "fully" using USB type C.. Most of us are still using USB type A.. And as for the headphone jack, wireless headphones are quite expensive in my country as we are facing economic crisis so most of us still use wired headphones or earphones.. In addition the iPhone 7 also is expensive.. In my country an iPhone 7 cost around RM4000 and the average salary for an undergraduate is around RM3000 so I think you understand.. That's the reason I got triggered when you say smartphone should remove WiFi because WiFi is still essential in my country and almost every other countries.. And as for profanities, I'm not looking for a fight ok, it's just a discussion... I try to be nice to everyone.. Have a nice day
@nandanchoudhury7 жыл бұрын
this is a pretty short sighted comment IMHO. just because you don't use it/don't have access to it doesn't mean it should be removed. Without Wifi please enlighten me on how to add the phone to your local network. It is very important to developers for the device to be in the local network for debugging reasons and for the non techie lot, most of us use for dlna. Good luck routing your media content the entire world before it reaches your TV/speakers
