Answer 1 - The valuation of the company is 300 crore, i.e., Funding / Equity = Valuation of the company 24,00,00,000 / 8% = 3,00,00,00,000. Answer 2 - for buying 15% equity of the company, the investor should pay 45 crore money to the company. i.e., we need to do cross-multiplication to find the amount for 15% equity, 100% (equity) = 3,00,00,00,000 (value of the company) 15% (Equity) = ? = 15% * 3,00,00,00,000 / 100% So, we get the amount of 45,00,00,000 rupees.

Great video. Have been searching for this for quite sometime and you have a great simple explanation. Thank you. Have two questions 1) In most shark tank episodes, the entrepreneur asks for a higher valuation than the previous round. What happens to the shares in previous round. Do the previous investors need to match the corresponding new valuation to keep their shares OR does their percentage of equity reduce based on new valuation sharks agreed OR because they bought it at lower valuation prior to sharks giving higher value, they get the difference in new value back as profit with an option to reinvest back? 2) If the sharks offer a lower amount than previous valuation, what happens to the previous investors who paid higher? Who will pay the difference in share value?

Part 1: Total Value of the Company If 8% of the company is worth 24 crore rupees, then we can find the total value by dividing 24 crore by 8 and then multiplying by 100. So, (24 crore / 8) * 100 = 300 crore rupees. Therefore, the total value of the company is 300 crore rupees. Part 2: Cost of 15% Ownership We know the total value is 300 crore rupees. To find the cost of 15% ownership, we divide 300 crore by 100 (to get the value of 1%) and then multiply by 15. So, (300 crore / 100) * 15 = 45 crore rupees. Therefore, to get 15% ownership, someone would need to invest 45 crore rupees. In simpler terms: Imagine the company is a cake. 8% of the cake (a small slice) is worth 24 crore rupees. We figured out the value of the whole cake (100%) is 300 crore rupees. Then we calculated the value of another slice (15%) which is 45 crore rupees.
