I just pronounce niner, ZEE-ro, and see-ERA, making certain that the syllables are separated. One un-hurried clearly enunciated transmission is less problematic than necessity for a say-again and further clarification.

Niner was adopted to prevent nine being confused with nein in German speaking countries. I noticed some controllers often mishear kilo for zero.

I can see where 5 and 9 could sound alike, but I think “niner” takes care of that. I definitely agree about sierra. I never thought about it sounding like zero, but I can see where it would. You actually say the sound of another letter. Cee-erra. Makes me think of C. It should be “snake”. They even look like an S!

Decimal should be used more instead of point. Depending on the controller point sounds a lot like 1
