The Frutiger font isn't actually used in most Frutiger aero imagery. It's called Frutiger Aero because Adrian Frutiger essentially invented "humanist" typefaces. Humanism is a big part of Frutiger Aero. A humanist typeface is a typeface (typically called a font, but I believe that terminology is technically incorrect) that involves including simple purposeful mistakes that a human would when writing something with a pen. Rather, most Frutiger Aero aesthetic imagery with text uses Microsoft's Segoi UI typeface which is very very very similar to Frutiger's typeface design.

My first memories of frutiger aero were at my preschool around 2006-07. Looking back now I remember a lot of this aesthetic being there, it just felt like the whole world in general looked like frutiger aero when I was 4. All the computers ran on windows XP and sometimes vista, they had the soap bottles with the fish in them and everything. But my most fond memories of it oddly enough were during recess. The preschool was on a university campus that my mom worked at so there were lots of places they would take us to play, mostly in these huge fields. As a kid it literally felt like I was in one of those desktop pictures. Especially on days that it was warm and we would have “water day” which I remember calling it, where they’d get out sprinklers and water toys for us to play with. I’ve since driven past my old preschool and saw the fields, and it was nostalgic but nothing can compare to those memories since everything looked so big and bright as a kid. It’s just cool how an aesthetic can shape how you see the world as a kid especially if it’s the first one you remember / are exposed to.

I was born right before the death of Frutiger aero and I saw its gradual transition from glossy skeuomorphic designs to flat everything. I remember my iPad had the old iOS 5 or something wallpaper with the grass and the dew droplets. I can still picture that wallpaper so clearly. I yearn to find it one day again. I was in China for the first half of my life and my god did Shanghai have so many Frutiger themes. There was a park that I would go to and during the summer everything that had chlorophyll would turn bright green and, contrasted with the blue sky and the white paths, made everything look like a picturesque idealistic wallpaper. What would l give to relieve it again

Nice video. Frutiger Aero tickles something in my brain. I wonder what younger kids of this generation will look back on as their aesthetic... Maybe a video on that?

Whats the music from 6:05 to the end? Sounds a bit like Lease, but I know thats not it. Also great video! It’s also good to mention that the rise of Frutiger Aero can also be because of the rise, and distaste for the corporate styles we see today, and see everywhere.

I think frutiger aero sort of ended partway through Windows 10. I definitely think the original Windows 10 wallpaper fits into Frutiger Aero, and the Metro UI design originally evolved from aero. I preferred when it was more colourful than grey though, like in Windows 8. Windows 11 has become slightly more humanistic, but not much. Still feels very corporate and similar to the style of Apple operating systems like MacOS and IOS in a way i dont personally like too much

It ended with Windows 7 (the best operating system), with windows 8 they gave us those opaque squares and ugly flat design that dominates now. Many people including me were mad they removed the skeuomorphic design and transparent glass effect
@Big-Chungus21
@Big-Chungus21 10 ай бұрын
@@MybeautifulandamazingPrincess They never removed Skeuomorphic design, thats a word that has been massively misinterpreted due to things like the aesthetic wiki. A skeuomorph is anything that conveys purpose through resembling a concept or object someone already is aware of. For example, the IOS phone icon is a skeuomorph, because it looks like the speaker of an old rotary phone. Its equally skeuomorphic, because it uses an equal amount of skeuomorphs - this has always been the case. Skeuomorphic is more of a quality when it comes to applications of built in ones rather than ones the user installs themselves. For example, Safari has always used a skeuomorph of a compass, in order to relate the action of browsing (or exploring) the web to a navigational tool. It shows that Safaris job is to help navigate the web. Even if safaris icon is less detailed, it is still a compass and therefore a skeumorph, and equally skeuomorphic. Something cannot be more or less skeuomorphic, it can only be or not be a skeuomorph. Chrome has never used a skeuomorphic icon. It used to have a realistic chrome multicoloured ball, which while realistic isnt skeuomorphic. That chrome ball doesnt relate to the purpose of Chrome at all, it doesnt tell you what it actually does.
