What is God?

"Does praying to a form limit your spiritual progress in anyway? Those who pray to the formless or believe in the formless god or if you take a pure view of non-duality, then you may not consider that as god which means - what is god basically?
God, in the eyes of a devotee is an entity that’s worthy of reverence, that’s worthy of your respect, that’s worthy of your devotion. If I don’t feel reverence, if I don’t feel devotion, then I can’t say I am praying to a god. I may be speaking to my friend. So, when we talk about formless, there it is important to make a subtle distinction. If you take the non- dual view (advaita), then pretty much everything is god.
There are different religions who believe that god doesn’t have a form, but those religions have a physical object of reverence, through a place of worship, book etc. We find it easy to communicate with physical objects in general as a human race. Most of us make a statement of who we are based on our physical actions. Some people find it easier to connect with a form, through idol worship or a book - There isn’t really a difference there.
It's an individual’s spiritual journey. People should arrive at their own conclusion; they should work it out. The joy of working it out supersedes everything else in the spiritual journey. You need to have the courage, determination, sincerity, truthfulness to walk the path with patience and not lose sight of why you started in the first place. Then you will meet your truth on the way somewhere - but if someone gives it to you, it will never be the same as discovering it for yourself. Form or formless just feel free.

God is infinite. He's omnipotent and omniscient. He's the creator of the Universe and everything in it. He's the master of space and time. Do you agree with this definition? Good, let's move on. God created this Universe and all of us, but in his infinite generosity he also gave us free will, i.e. we can do what we please during our lifetime and in the end god will judge us for how we behaved. Is this about right? All right. Now… we're having a nasty little problem here. If god is truly omnipotent and omniscient, like we've just agreed, then there cannot be freedom of choice because god must already know everything that you, me and everybody else will do with your lives since the beginning of time. He knows what you will do tomorrow, next week and ten years from now. He must know, otherwise he's no longer all-knowing and hence becomes fallible. So, if god already knows every mistake that you will make during your life since the beginning of time, this implies that he created you on purpose to make these mistakes. He created a certain man named Hitler on purpose, knowing that this man would one day become responsible for the extermination of 6 million innocent people, for example. This makes god directly and solely responsible for everything that goes on in our Universe. Such a god would be a total, psychopathic bastard. Who would create a Universe while you already know everything that will happen? If you already know every stroke of every wing of every fly? More simply put… If god really existed and if he really were all-powerful and all-knowing, he would have no desire whatsoever to create anything because he'd be perfect the way he is
