New to wp n just learned about gpl themes/plugins. so my questions: 1. if gpl licensed themes/plugins are free, then why do these all gpl clubs charge money. 2. If a WordPress theme/plugin has a gpl licensed that means its some where available for free download from the source, what is the origin link for it or official repository from where all these clubs are sourcing it. where/how do they actually get it from, there has to be an official repository, so why cant we get it from there itself, can someone share official gpl repository ? 3.almost all paid themes,plugins required licence keys. so will these work without licence keys ? and for how long? 4.what about future updates ?how to update it, will we get autoupdates like regular or do we need to manually update it, will manual updates cause any changes in the exiting configuration settings n data ? 5. how do we verify its official gpl and not a nulled version of a theme or a plugin?

You Will Get Theme Free But Not At One Place .That's Why some Companies charges Money For Themes To Provide Updates And Virus-free Files.

Hi Darrel, let me ask you question if anybody has to sell the modified software. But as per GPL terms, the modified software must be registered under GPL terms and under GPL terms the modified software is free, then how can he sell modified software for price?

So this is still confusing. I'm going to present a scenario and if someone can tell me if I'm in breach of the GPLv3 I'd much appreciate it. Scenario : I build a CNC machine based on Arduino. It uses a firmware named GRBL that is licensed under GPLv3. I make a prototype PCB board with the CNC machine for my tests and design. Then I finally finalize my product and get my PCB manufactured by a PCB fabrication house (i.e. JLCPCB). I now sell my product to make a profit. Do I now have to openly publish my PCB designs because I used firmware licensed under GPLv3 to make prototypes of the designs that later got improved upon and manufactured independently?

If you could change a software literally like the unreal engine or something then it’s wrong but if it just a test or it’s monitored and you have permission from the owner of the software then I guess it could but the truth is you can’t just around changing stuff
