The HDA 2 in my Ioniq 5 is fantastic, much better than Autopilot in my previous Tesla Model 3. The latter takes complete control of your car, and you are expected to assist it. Turning the steering wheel will shut it OFF! In the Ioniq 5, I still maintain control while HDA 2 assists me. BIG difference. For example, if I come upon roadkill or road damage or a tumbleweed ahead, I can steer around the obstacle without a problem without canceling or shutting down HDA 2 -which simply resumes its cruise control and lane keep once I center the car again. Sweeeeeet!

My Ioniq 5 EV has HDA2.0. On the 401 HDA engages and allows up to 4 minutes handsfree, as long as traffic isn't too heavy. On secondary highways, HDA won't engage but I can still get up to 1 minute of handsfree. HDA2.0 uses AI to adjust driving parameters. Not sure if HDA1.0 will behave the same. I'm trading in the Ioniq 5 EV for a Tucson Hybrid Ultimate so, I'll find out first hand how HDA1.0 behaves.

Correct HDA 2 utilizes machine learning! This means the vehicle is always improving and feels very second nature! HDA 1, does not incorporate machine learning and only relies on NAV data, the camera, and radar sensor. With that being said it still works great ( I have it on my car) and certainly works better than a traditional smart cruise control.

Does it recognize reduced speed in construction zones?

Can the smart cruise control be used as a normal (dumb? 😅) cruise control? Even when set on the shortest distance, sometimes it detects the vehicle in front way too early and applies the brakes before I can switch lanes and overtake. And if I start to overtake earlier, I spend too much time in the left lane and some BMW driver always gets annoyed and starts flashing me with their high beams 😅

Please don't use HDA in the left lane. Let others pass on the left lane.

In our Mazda this feature is rear brake bias and leads to very ‘premature’ rear brake wear. In reading online many people are replacing rear brakes in as little as 10,000 miles/15k km depending on the traffic conditions they drive in. We’re at 100,000km in ours and I’m on the 5 set of pads and second set of rotors.. using high quality brake components. But with that said, even when brake with the pedal the rear brakes are biased - I’m told this is for a sporty ‘Mazda’ feel to reduce nose dive. Long story: for these automated driving aids and ‘sporty braking dynamic’ they greatly undersized the rear brakes

Hyundai use a totally different system using radar to determine following distance and only engage the brakes to take preventative measures. It's a good system but Tesla still have that market captured.

Can you switch it to" old fashion cruise control"?

I hope to see a video on the HDA that is in the limited models of Hyundai. I still can't figure out how to use mine, I will get on the highway and turn it on, I think I set the speed but then if I depress the gas, it will just decelerate. It's like I get all the drive assist features but still have to maintain the gas pedal on my own, it's weird.

That's not how HDA is supposed to work.

@@ScubaSteveCanada Sorry, but what's not supposed to work like that? Are you saying my HDA is broken?
