Yamaha FJR 1300 AE had electronic clutch in 2006. It's an excellent system for riding in heavy traffic. Don't know why some clueless people are jumping to the riding skills argument. Yes it will also help new riders but many of us have no issues with a full manual clutch except when commuting in traffic.

As someone with screws in the middle of their middle finger on the left hand that does get sore the eclutch is a fantastic idea and I hope it makes it to more bikes. I like still be able to use the clutch as normal but the hand gets sore after bit and it has been 30 years so it's not going away.

I can see this especially helpful on the track approaching the typical hairpin turn one at most tracks...being able to brake hard and hit the downshifts without worrying about blipping or botching it, especially in combination with its slipper clutch. I have an 03' 6r and have never gotten comfortable with that first hairping ughh.

Excellent demonstration. Especially helpful was starting from a dead stop, stopping and slow speed maneuvering. You gave me a good understanding of the riding experience. I hope Honda brings it to the US on a bike with a more vertical riding position. I doubt that I could ride comfortably for a long ride while leaning far forward. I would like to see it available on the TransAlp.

Why did Troy try the e-clutch to launch in 6th gear (they ask)? Because eventually someone will inadvertently do just that! And , it’s a good test of the system. To me, the technology of e-clutch makes the most sense of semi-automated gear shifting. I’m sure there’s a lot of computer code to it, but Honda has easily accomplished it. Finally, Troy is the best video presenter/host/MC in the bike world. Always concise and to the point.
@lensoprezole53222 ай бұрын
Easily? Honda certainly worked several years to accomplish that level of refinement in the smoothness of the e clutch system. What a beautiful motorcycle brand without being in the luxury side, like ducati or MV.
@hakankillberg60432 ай бұрын
Thanks this is the best video out there of the e-clutch system. Though i think you missed the best of this system and its driving in citys with traffic jam and all the stop and take offs. You dont need all of this clutch in/out movement. You can be more chilled. Then i wonder if the inline 4 is the best motor for this when you dont have so much grunt down low. Yes its great but maybe its even better on a twin cylinder bike? Whats your take on using the clutch without the e-system is the clutch sloppy or how does it feel comparing a normal clutch on other bikes?

@davidboda462 ай бұрын
And how much does a Rekluse clutch package cost? And how much for installing it? Not everybody is knowledgeable enough to do it. I have nothing against the e-clutch, as long as it's optional on a model. I look at it as a quick shifter with an added party trick.

Why bother developing an e-clutch if they already have DCT? I've had manual bikes all my life, but one gets to an age where the constant shifting, especially in traffic, just becomes annoying. I switched to a scooter 10 years ago, twist-and-go is heaven. I briefly added an ST1300 two years ago, based on fond memories of my Gold Wing GL1100 Interstate 30 years ago, but dropped it when I accidentally pulled away in 2nd (I hadn't shifted down to 1st) - I sold the bike within 4 weeks.

eClutch is a 4lb addon that can be mated to almost any traditional Honda transmission, the DCT is a specialized product that's heavier and more mechanically complex. Considering how applicable the eClutch is to other models, seems like it's a pretty great piece of kit for Honda.

As in older rider, I’ve been motorcycling for 40 years with various manufacturers super sport bikes. Is there a problem with a clutch and manual shift lever? Is no clutch and auto shift up and down a real thing? Is it for the children that can’t grasp the thought of a manual clutch and shifter? I know most cars built today are automatic, therefore, the majority of people can’t drive a manual. My ex wife couldn’t drive my muscle cars and the like, it made me happy!!! 🙂
