one thing i love about the acoustimass 300 is the vibration it produces that really give a immersive experience to movies. i have been watching all the marvel movies on disney + dolby vision and sound, but not all movies vibrate the same. the deep bose sound is there but the same vibration is missing in some movies. ( some movies vibrate way more often then others for example during machine gun fire or some thing slammed to the floor & other movies just vibrate during big explosions only. ?????
@Letsdosomethinguseful4 жыл бұрын
That also depends on what is producing the sound. For example, whether you like John Lennon or not, listen to "Starting Over" and you will se a very particular but beautiful bass sound. But if you listen to a rapper, you will see that even that it vibrates, the sound is not that beautiful. I think it has to do with the frequency of the instrument being played, so the same is for the movies, depends on the frequency of the sound. I think. Have you see those sofas chair that have some sort of sub woofer system to make the couch vibrate with the movie?

Don’t own one of these but took a demo in a store. Sounds pretty neat and tight. Bose has always been pretty conservative on amplifier power but feeding 300 watts in to a 10 inch driver is pretty sufficient I would say. Comparing Bose’s price / performance with that with other established brands is something which has existed from the day I guess Bose came out with their first product. But Bose follows a totally different design philosophy I guess in which elegance, portability and audio performance is given equal preference.

Magnets are cheap. Even a $50 woofer can have a magnet that big. The entire motor structure can be either garbage or good and the magnet has little influence on that. A well designed motor and magnetic gap with a medium magnet is better than a poor design with big magnet. Plus magnet size doesn't mean it's a strong magnet at all.
@mhp_loudspeakers37684 жыл бұрын
Fun fact the wave guide is only a kind of an transmission line so it is not very special.
@Acoustic_Theory4 жыл бұрын
@@mhp_loudspeakers3768 Actually in this subwoofer it's a reflex port. It is folded, and it will have a quarter-wavelength mode to its operation (as all port pipes do; as ports required by a certain design are made longer, they acquire an "organ-pipe" resonant mode which can be used to advantage if you know it will be there) but when you take a port and fold it, the straight sections behave as air masses that "add together" to produce the same air mass as a longer straight port, and with a cabinet that has a large chamber like that, it is definitely operating as a mass-spring system to have a tuned resonance of its own. Transmission line systems typically minimize the amount of volume behind the driver that is not functioning as part of the resonant "line", while vented boxes have a definite chamber volume behind the driver, and the total air volume of the port is a lot less than the volume of the chamber. I've designed both transmission lines and vented enclosures with folded ports, and their mechanisms of action are quite different.
@Acoustic_Theory4 жыл бұрын
It is a fine looking driver from Bose, finally. I would judge that the voice coil is either 2" or 2.5" diameter, which is plenty big for a home subwoofer. (And the overall driver diameter is 10".)

Would you recommend this over a Cerwin Vega CVE-18s 18" 1000 Watt Powered Portable Subwoofer ? For movie and home use?
@Letsdosomethinguseful5 жыл бұрын
Depends, Cerwin Vega is way more powerful but it is designed more for PA systems than home use. If you put this 300 watts Bose subwoofer in a very big room, like a church or warehouse or open space and you compare it to a Mackie or Cerwin Vega with the same power, you will notice that the marcie or CV are ways better. But for close and small rooms, Bose is better because it is designed to bounce the sound in walls and cancel overlapping frequencies and sounds, in other works, Bose home systems are much better appreciate in lower volume and that is how it is designed, to provided quality over quantity. I have this subwoofer because it is the only one I can use with my Bose Soundtouch 300 sound bar, but of course, if I had the option to use other subwoofer, I could have a Mackie or CV or JBL nd that way I can use it in the patio too.

Car subwoofers tend to have a "loose" sound and unbalanced sound response which is terrible for home audio and on top of that, the fact that they are so big ruins the balanced sound and you end up with bass overpowering everything else in your music. We call that BPC - meaning: Black Plastic Crap, LOL. This design is called a "transmission line" or a labyrinth design. They generally reproduce great, detailed bass - but at the size of this "subwoofer" (said VERY loosely) and the small area and length of the labyrinth - you probably won't get any bass below about ~40Hz. What that means is that you'll be totally missing out on most of the HT, sub-bass frequencies below the cutoff - frequencies that would be easily reachable with other, much more inexpensive true subwoofers from HSU, Rhythmik, SVS, and even PE/Dayton Audio kits. Bose is still overpriced black plastic crap, IMO....

Thankfully they’ve ditched the awful 5.5” Acoustimass “bass module” in favour of an actual subwoofer. But the plastic cabinet looks horribly cheap and flimsy.
@AM-in5cf5 жыл бұрын
It may look cheap but it’s surprisingly strong. They have a nice bracing inside wich makes it pretty strong for a plastic cabinet. And the 10 inch woofer is also a nice upgrade after all these years. Hope they will bring out a sub with dual woofer
