What a fascinating subject, Mark! A great one to ponder upon. I really enjoyed listening to your thoughts on the topic. It's certainly interesting to wonder what it is that makes people enjoy books so much. I would think there are a million and one wild and wonderful reasons. Speaking for myself, I would say part of the reason I enjoy immersing myself in a book is for escapism. If you find a good book which really holds your attention you can almost imagine yourself there experiencing the story alongside the characters. For the time we read a book we can get away from chores, work etc. Books also have a special place in my heart due to all the fabulous art and photography inside them. Growing up I would spend hours teaching myself to draw and paint from them. Some of them, I still have and hold many wonderful memories of childhood. As always, another great ramble!!! 😃

I agree with the escapism. And, that they are multimedia. The art is often overlooked. Thanks!

I'd love to do this one, thanks for tagging me. I often wonder about this kind of thing myself. When I go out to buy books, I sometimes crack up picturing myself in third person like I'm the subject of one of David Attenborough's nature documentaries: "Attracted by the pretty colors and shapes of the paper rectangles, the human searches for just the right ones - choosing one, he adds it to a stack to take home to decorate the walls of his dwelling... running out of room, he sometimes must stack them on the floor..."

I remember reading the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn when I was a young boy, probably 9 I believe, and just thinking how amazing it would be to hop on a barge or raft and float down the Mississippi (It was a ways away for a boy who'd have to walk but my state did have a border with the River). Thing is, I still love the idea of that all of these years later. Thanks for the video

What an awesome topic. I Love books, first for the thrill of the hunt. I buy all my books at thrift stores and occasionally on Ebay. And like you say, to find or discover an undiscovered gem. The one that the public aren't much aware of. And I touched on that subject before. I used music as an example. Way back in 1976 I went and saw the rock band REO Speedwagon. At that time they were unheard of by the masses. I loved them. I bought their Live LP. I saw them each year for 3 years in a row. Then they released the LP that put them on top of the music charts with their mushy top 40 hits. Suddenly everyone loved REO Speedwagon. And I would tell anyone that would listen, "No, I have always liked them Before you ever heard of them!" No, no, no! I know that is selfish but I wanted credit for knowing about them first! Same way with books. when I hear younger booktubers mention this book or that book like they just discovered them, I want to say NO! But that is very selfish of me. Anyway, I am rambling. this is a very interesting topic and I may post a video about it one day. Thank you -James

To be one hundred percent honest, 2018, I got into books because I wanted some nice decorations for my newly built office extension. Then Covid hit, lockdowns , more lockdowns, then we were hit with an internet outage for a day. Bored to tears I picked up one of my books and started to read. I hadn't read a book for pleasure since a teenager. Well... 2024, my new home extension to my office is nearly complete designed to house my now rapidly growing library and book collection. So, I have no idea what it is about books, but, along with art and maps, and vinyl records... they are simply wonderful to own!

Indeed, and what a great answer! Thank you so much. Hmmm... vinyl. They've come back, haven't they?
@kurjan1
@kurjan1 3 күн бұрын
@@book-ramble Oh yes! Vinyl is definitely back. I have spent a ridiculously obscene amount of money on a record player and CD player. Oh so much better than streaming. That feeling of sitting back after removing the record from the sleeve, carefully placing the needle, pouring a glass of whisky… the soundstage so rich and deep and impure. The sleeve on your lap as you thumb through all the extras the artist gave you housed in the gatefold. Like a good book, it’s magical and wonderful. I work in a very computer, tech, Ai heavy environment. It’s good to unplug.
