Many years ago, i was driv8ng in the Jordanian desert. I stopped in a small village where I saw a baker making bread. I will never forget the taste of tnat bread fresh from the oven. I also spent the night in a tomb in Petra. I woke up at 3 in the morning and saw it under a full moon. Unforgetable!

Being alone in an historical site is an overwhelming feeling. (Think Vanilla Sky, with Tom Cruise absolutely alone in Time Square.) When visiting family in the Soviet Union in '89, I went out into Red Square at 3 AM. It was amazing to stand alone surrounded by almost a thousand years of history.
@earthlingYTАй бұрын
@mishapopov2835 I don't quite understand, but it sounds lovely. To show my confusion say that aren't we always walking in thousands and millions of years of history? I'm guessing it's the human buildings and politics or culture that are so awe-inspiring. Is that you referred to?

That is an incredible news Eli... being invited by ministry of tourism!! Congratulations! I've been follow your youtube channel for a while and I have to be honest that I became a fan of your content!! Break a leg!
@jackieowАй бұрын
Historic note: When John Wilkes Booth shot Abraham Lincoln in 1865, he jumped out of the presidential theater box onto the stage to escape. He was wearing spurs to ride an escape horse, and one of the spurs caught on a flag as he jumped. So Booth was thrown off balance and he landed with his other knee hard onto the stage. Ouch! And it was broken, so he limped away from the stunned audience, jumped onto his horse, and escaped only because he talked his way past the guard on the "closed" Navy Yard bridge to ride out of Washington D.C. Booth was a famous actor, and in the world of dark humor he had just given quite a performance. So actors started telling one another "break a leg" as an insider's club joke way of saying "put on a sensational performance." That construed to the general public as "good luck" even though superficially it sounds unpleasant when the real meaning is positive,
@yourgopnikcomradeАй бұрын
@@jackieow Far fetched. The first mention of “Break a leg” was recorded in print by Robert Wilson Lynd in 1921 (56 years after 1865). An urbane literary essayist, he wrote an article, “A Defence of Superstition,” about the prevalence of superstition in horse racing and the theatre.He outlined that in horse racing, one would never wish someone good luck as it might push one’s luck too far. You would say, rather, “I hope your horse will break a leg.” This served as a kind of reverse psychological thought to appease the spirits of fate, which favoured the humble. He also mentioned that though Theatre was not as superstitious as horse racing, it was close.

So cool. I visited there from Ireland in 2003. I travelled to Petra and arrived late evening. There were no tourists because of the impending Iraq war. I had Petra all to myself. It was absolutely magical. The Wadi Rum desert was just a special to me. Interestingly Jordan has a substantial population of ethnic Chechens, mainly in the city of Zarqa. Indeed, the ceremonial guards of the royal family are descendants from a Russian region. It seems there is a strong historical connection between Jordan and Russia.
