These little theatres and story cards should be used in teaching around the world. What a great but simple invention.

I think kamishabai is not only good for children. It is a good way too to stimulate our elders imagination reminding tales and stories.

Time sure does fly by. Hopefully, we can catch up in person in the not too distant future. Thanks for watching and sharing with your class.

This is so cool to me because it’s like a more interactive storybook. I’d love to make one of these. But like in a modern sense? Aka a storybook told in this way but not so much a folktale just a story I think that would be super cool! I even think it would be cool if the stage was decorated to enhance the story like a frame. Idk. Something that just came into my head when I found out about this art form.

I have another video on kamishibai in the classroom which talks about ways to incorporate it in teaching. With more and more youth addicted to rapid fire media consumption, I think art forms like kamishibai are needed to try and slow things down for their over stimulated brains.

So in other words, Kamishibai is more comparable to a projection slideshow than a picture book. I can dig that.

Great! And I recognized many of the Japanese folktales; the inch-high Samurai, Ojizou, Peach Boy. Did you print them yourself? Really beautifully made.

Wonderful! Can you tell me where to find the specific Kamishibai in a European Union country? Which firm is it? Thank you in advance!
@Dymsensei4 жыл бұрын
Not sure where to buy in Europe. But Kamishibai for Kids will probably ship you some. They have a good collection of Kamishibai in Japanese and English.

Well done! A detail: the woman says "chinese word". We all know it's a japanese word.

Japanese actually borrows some characters from Chinese
@hitkid245610 ай бұрын
Their word for them is just their version of hanzi, and that is what the word itself means (Chinese characters).

usually how many paper to make kamishibai except for cover or title ? if i make only 6 it is ok ?
@wizard51418 жыл бұрын
Hi, I'm Japanese. I'm answering your question since the video owner doesn't seem to be going to do. It really depends on the age of kids you're going to read to. For older children, it can be longer than 6 scenes as their concentration is better. Having said that, Kamishiba has typically from 8 to 12 papers (scenes), some stories has even longer than that. 16 pages for example. You can get Kamishibai starter kit from Amazon Japan, which has 7 papers with the thick paper frame.

Well, thank you for recognizing this , I really appreciate it, but I already make it using drawing book, though I get rank 3 in my college for this

There are no hard and fast rules to the number of cards. It is up to the maker. Most commercial kamishibai are 8-20, though some are as many as 24. The old time street ones were usually 8-10, in part because they were cranked out every day and making 8-10 painting in one day was a huge job for the artist.

This feels like a needlessly over-complicated version of reading a picture book to kids.
@Dymsensei4 жыл бұрын
Actually, it is just the opposite. It is a much more effective way to convey a story to children.

@radiokunio37384 жыл бұрын
@@Nscorpion5248 i mean anime and a lot of manga actually have there roots in kamishibai is, to the point when tv came over to Japan in 1953 many called it "electronic kamishibai", in fact one of tezuka's first works is about a character that started in kamishibai.
@axelpatrickb.pingol32284 жыл бұрын
It is no different from children's theater. Or even a skilled storyteller. People (kids and adults) appreciate and remember stories better if they got some visual anchor to help them get along with the plot...
