An easy way to key your painting is to photograph it with your phone and look at it as a black and white image to see how balanced it is.

hello m.Svob, thank god i stumbled upon this video , i am a complete beginner , never painted before, but i always had a strong passion for paintings( especially ,i am quite fond of the movements of realism, impressionism,Baroque,Classicism,Neoclassicism,etc...) and art in general ( i also really like sculpting) but never believed i could ...So i wanted to ask you what do you recommend doing as a beginner to start painting

Really not sure what he is saying. The painting has dark, light and medium tones as lots of paintings do.

I think he is saying that you don’t paint equally with all 10 values. You use say, value 9 and 10……value one and two, and value 5 and 6 and that’s it. Skip 3,4,7, and 8. That’s how I interpreted it anyway. He really should do a video on how accomplish that because all I can see are all the values.
