Expat Brit living in the USA.. always loved black licorice as a kid, after moving to the States tried some of the Yankee stuff, definitely not some thing to write home about. Hard, chewy with an unpleasant after taste, no wonder it's not popular over here. I found the Aussie licorice in a pharmacy candy section of all places, gave it a go and OMG.... best licorice ever, soft with a good chew and great flavor, inf act I was so impressed, I went back and bought four more bags. Mr Lea is a candy wizard and his licorice is magic

I'm in Canada. First time trying the black licorice. 200g bag. I'm impressed. Slightly sticky, slightly chewy, slightly sweet, aromatic anise. Tasty and addictive. I would buy these again!

the smoky earthy will likely be the case with black licorice. The flavoured stuff usually doesn't have those notes.
