It's hard to meet people when you're socially awkward from not having anyone to talk to you for years people will just push you away
@alancoleman30586 жыл бұрын
SethCoC go out on a walk and challenge yourself to ask 20 people for the time. This will help your brain to understand that talking to others is normal and if you do this every day for a couple of weeks having conversations will come naturally. Think of it as a game. See how long you can hold a conversation for. This changes your fear into excitement and determination because your brain wants to beat your record. Go show’em what you’ve got. I believe in you

After my dad died I stopped with literally everything in my life. I stopped talking to people at home and at school, and I only did what I had to do to get by in life. That was 5 years ago now, and I am starting to feel the loneliness. But because it's been so long, it's become part of my daily routine not talk to people or engage with anyone unless it's my superiors at work and my mother. I have no friends, I have no life, I have no existence. My doctor just wants to throw some pills at me and that that will somehow help. I told my doctor that I am not depressed, I told her that I simply lost the will to carry on without the actual suicide part. Now I have to pay a Psychiatrist a hundred dollars every few weeks to listen to my problems because nobody else will. Life sure is difficult.

The need to feel like we belong is always our defining nature, but it does give some level of comfort to realize every now and then that there are others who feel exactly the same way
@gretchensmith28526 жыл бұрын
I struggled with something very similar in high school. I was sick of shallow interactions that had virtually no meaning to me. Personally, I'd recommend trying to connect with a group or club that relates to something your interested in. That can give you instantly more common ground with people: you can always talk about whatever the group is about. For me, I joined the debate team. That meant we could always talk about the debates. Over time, the strictly "professional" conversations began to turn into deeper more meaningful conversations, since we had gotten to know each other already. I found it a more enjoyable way to connect with people and it let me skip a lot of the shallower get-to-know-you-phase. I still use this "strategy" to find people I want to connect with; maybe it would help you, too.
@archades1156 жыл бұрын
To the one who asked about my profile pic, yes that is how I still appear. No, you need not elaborate how I look like a creepy, pedophilic school shooter with shit for brains. I have heard it all before. And for joining groups with similar interests, I have done something similar. Long story short, I don't much care about the interests of others. They will use me, or anyone else, and care only for themselves. I wish to be left alone, while still missing something.

It's quite ironic that we as a society although more "connected" than ever via social media have become so far removed from said society and the physical relationships and bonds that make us truly happy. The thing that was supposed to bring us closer together has just driven us further apart.

Social media might not have driven us apart. I think what he was saying is that it doesn’t bring everybody closer together. But like the sapien, some people are brought closer to people. That probably means he is using social media the way he should.
@jazzeeeecrock6 жыл бұрын
We are more connected with the world as a whole but I think that we have become disconnected from things like family and community. Of course that is generally speaking. The modern world in general has distanced us from one another. It's fascinating to me. This isn't related to the "online" disconnect, but it's a similar story. I remember a few years ago the power went out in our neighborhood and after about 20 mins ppl started coming outside to see what was going on. A hydro pole had fallen so the power was not going to be back on until crews could come out and fix it. Anyhow, those ppl started talking to one another. Neighbours were reconnecting. Some found that they didn't even know each other. People brought out food and drinks, and a few even brought out guitars. For hours the street was alive with ppl talking, singing, playing cards, etc... It was a beautiful sight! It's amazing that it took a power outage to bring ppl together. It was short lived though. As soon as the pole was replaced everyone scurried back inside their houses like roaches running from sudden light in the dark. The street got really quiet, really fast. It was back to "normal". It's kind of sad really.
@jazzeeeecrock6 жыл бұрын
Brenon Thiel that is very true. If you are responsible with it it can open up a whole new world for you!
@anitacline2136 жыл бұрын
jazzeeeec it is ironic, but studies have shown that being on social media makes people feel even worse about their own lives and makes them feel lonelier. I believe it’s because people only represent the best of themselves and their lives on social media like Facebook and others only see the shining happy smiles and good times and then compare their own lives, which are hard and people struggle with relationships, money, jobs, etc. If social media were more honest and showed that everyone struggles in the same way, it wouldn’t make people feel even more miserable by leading them to believe their the only ones struggling.

"Go out and meet people"? Easier said than done. Personally nobody approaches me and I dont observe others approaching random strangers in public when I go out. People are glued to their phones, most mistrust strangers, are already hanging out with their pre-established group, or are preoccupied with their task at hand. Plus if you're socially isolated people think you're some sort of weirdo and don't want to give you a chance. It's like you need to already have friends in order to make friends.

So i was lonely for many years. Went into depression too and then forced myself out of it. And when i say lonely i mean it. No family or friends by my side whatsoever. And then i realised that i feel fine now. Here's the thing, i weighed out the pros and cons of my experiences with people throughout my life and realised that almost 98% of them have been negative. And i just hate to deal with it again. Instead i diverted my mind to something else that would make me feel better than sulking about why im lonely and all that. I love music, animals, reading etc. And now im at that stage where i want to avoid human interaction at any cost. And feel contended with my loneliness too. Bcoz people are not a necessity anymore. They are an extra aspect i can live without. Surely if i have lived without them in the past means i can live without them. I know this sounds super weird but this is true. When someone has lived alone for too long they find it much easier to continue living like that.

Thanks! The saddest thing to me is when I see someone walking around, or in a line at the store, and they're on the phone. Their reactions become so weird! It's like the physical people around them are an actual nuisance, & the only thing that matters is that phone stuck to their ear! I've actually worked cash registers, & had the next guy in line (yes - *_always_* a guy) actually hold up a finger, like, "hang on a minute" at me! Do they really not see all the people in line behind them? Are they really that far gone, that they think we're all just going to stand there while they finish their conversation? [If they ever do!?!] People get so attached to their phones that it's as if nothing else around them is even real to them. Now *_that's lonely_* - whether they know it or not! tavi.

Some people are just mentally stronger than others being lonely...sometimes lonely helps the person, with time it helps them think and realizes what that person want in life. The others it makes them insane sometimes turning them into killers or creepers or even unstable. So it only depends on how strong the person is.

Didn't plan to comment but u mentioned solitary confinement in prison and that I can relate with. I did 130 days in solitary and ONLY came out of a 8 foot by 8 foot cell 3 times a week for literally a 1 minute shower. It was lonely to say the least. But now years later I look back and realize that I've been more lonely at times out here when depressed then I was when I was truly alone for those months in confinement. U can feel very lonely and be surrounded by people. If u know what I mean then u been there and can truly say u know how it feels to be lonely.

Insurance companies will jump on this. If they find out how isolated you are they'll load your life assurance policy as you will be at increased risk of heart attack or stroke. If you have no family or had a useless one, it's particularly hard. You can't just go out and meet another one. When I was a teenager (and long before,) my habit of relying on the kindness of strangers began. Some took me to their hearts and plenty took advantage of this vulnerability, which haunts me to this day. Like a fog following me. And the shame of it...The only thing that would make me feel any better would be to go back in time to say, 1975-1995 and stay there until I died. Coming from a rubbish family sets you off on the wrong foot completely. It's like trying to maintain a house with little or no foundations. You're forever patching, underpinning and trying to shore it up. It will never be strong enough to survive a storm or high wind.

You got an awesome shirt. Also, interesting science! I'd also like to know how severely online only interactions compare to real life only interactions and also a no interaction group. I think it'd be an interesting study on what sorts of brain alterations such a study would present.

I enjoy being on my own, people just bring drama. I left Facebook and I don’t plan on going back! I deleted my account that had 800+ people and most of the list simply just couldn’t care less as long as the likes kept flowing. Another problem is your either to nice or to mean - you can’t please anymore. Well no one I know anyway. I’m happy to do my own thing with the small amount of people I know. But life is busy, kids jobs etc. It’s all good, acceptance isn’t a bid deal to me.

Don’t need to socialize when you have the feeling of getting shot in public

Ive always had the feeling like you see in the movies where your standing motionless in a crowded place and they are all in fast foward moving around you. Never noticing you. Like you watching life pass you by.

I’m around people all the time. Yet the more time I spend with people, the more I realize how lonely I actualy am.

'sometimes I feel like it but I deal with it cause my doctor told me it is normal,. without it life is no meaning it is a part to our lives sometimes.... and my answer to these are those with your details and a prayer, for me to be back to life after sometimes.😁😍

We were definitely designed to be social creatures, but yes, it is perfectly normal to desire to be alone sometimes. Too many young people are very busy on their phones instead of actually going out and socializing with people. People seek attention and satisfaction in the wrong ways by being alone [and on their phone].

Being lonely is not always bad, it can actually be quite pleasent sometimes if you need some time to think.

You are confusing loneliness with being alone solitude is a different thing loneliness is a state of mind it feels like no1 cares about you while they talk to others they don't talk to you and even if you talk they arent interested in the conversation

Im lonely and no one does anything about it. I'm shy as hell and if I do try to become friends with someone they cut me off on the first day. People see that I'm alone but they just don't care and my parents just recently got divorced (Im 16) and I've been with them my entire life. I have depression becuase of other events that happened in the past and recently. So all of this is actually killing me slowly and painfully.

i think we suffer from anxiety and depression from genetic/food/environmental factors => so we than isolate ourselves to protect us from being hurt , ashamed, feeling more anxiety , sadness and stress => which then makes us be even more lonely=> and than more depressed and anxious . well atleast thats how it is for me
