I got malaria when I was 17 years old in California. I was living with Grandparents in Stanislaus County, but was from Arkansas before that. The Doctor said I could have contacted it in Arkansas or Cali either, but I am thinking it was Cali as I had gone frog hunting with Uncles a few weeks earlier. I had been bitten big time by mosquitoes during the frog hunt. They have the symptoms right, I started getting very cold in the evening, shaking and freezing, then a few hours later fever would hit and sweated so much it was unbelievable. It took about three weeks to get over and even then several years later it would hit again in mainly winter time. It was pure hell to say the least.

I am infected a week back with malaria and I am experiencing that hell. I almost passed out in the toilet due to excessive sweating. There was a blackout and somehow I managed to clean myself up, stumbled in my bed, drank water and went into a deep slumber. I felt like I died. I keep getting those chills and sweats. Waiting for the report...

I have been having steady malaria since I was a kid and i don't know despite all the medications i take i can't stay more than one month without getting hit by malaria, sometimes if I'm very angry about a particular situation the next morning I will get hit by malaria. I have tried running different test from different hospitals but they can't find what is responsible for my sick and i have decided to live my life like that

I'm sorry to hear about the persistent challenges you're facing with malaria-like symptoms. It's concerning that despite multiple tests, the cause remains elusive. If conventional medical investigations have not provided a diagnosis, it might be beneficial to consult with a specialist, such as an infectious disease specialist or a travel medicine expert, who may have a broader perspective on infectious diseases. Additionally, consider seeking opinions from healthcare professionals at reputable medical institutions. It's crucial not to resign yourself to living with persistent health issues without exhaustive exploration of potential causes. Comprehensive medical evaluation, including detailed discussions about your symptoms and medical history, could offer insights into finding an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plan.

"And health-giving trees, they are, too. Most of them are eucalyptus and pepper trees, the healthiest in the world! You never hear of any malarial fevers in San Diego, sir, never. Our perfect climate, the fine sloping ground of our town site, our eucalyptus trees, sea breezes and mountain air, make San Diego a most healthy little city. Think of this, Governor Stanford, Surely, you do not wish to make us so miserable that you cause death! Yes, death from poverty and despair. Poverty, overwork and discouragement are the causes of sickness and death oftener than it is supposed, and this Mr. Spencer also maintains unswervingly." -from “the squatter & the Don “ by Maria Burton describing how Californias climate especially San Diego prevents and reduces the amount of sickness or malarial fevers, which are almost unheard of in California, and that the main cause of death in California is not sickness but fatigue, poverty, and overwork or that if you want to find health, as the book eludes too, California is your place as it is of the healthiest places on earth where many have found recovery and wellness , great book I’d recommend anyone to read especially if you like California history
@MedicalCentric
@MedicalCentric 4 ай бұрын
@jamesalvarez8733 This excerpt beautifully captures the essence of California's climate and its impact on health, particularly in San Diego. The emphasis on eucalyptus and pepper trees highlights how the environment contributes to overall well-being, while also pointing out that socio-economic factors like poverty and overwork can lead to illness. It's a powerful reminder that wellness is influenced not just by geography but also by lifestyle and social conditions. If you enjoy California history, "The Squatter and the Don" offers rich insights into these themes and is definitely worth a read!

@SafetyMentalst What a vivid description of the wild weather in Texas! 🌧️ It’s definitely concerning how climate change can intensify these conditions, from flooding to the increase in pests like biting bugs. @shadowgamerdante9639 I'm really sorry you're feeling this way, but it's important that you get medical help right away if you're experiencing symptoms of malaria. Malaria is a serious illness caused by parasites transmitted through mosquito bites, and symptoms can include fever, chills, sweating, headaches, nausea, and body aches. If you suspect you have malaria, you should seek medical attention immediately. Malaria can be treated with prescription medications, but prompt treatment is crucial to prevent complications. Please contact a doctor or go to an emergency room as soon as possible for the proper care.

Every colonists biggest fear
@MedicalCentric
@MedicalCentric Ай бұрын
@OlRustysgpl It sounds like you're referring to a fear commonly associated with colonists, perhaps in historical or fictional contexts. One of the biggest fears for colonists was the unknown-whether it was the dangers of uncharted territories, conflicts with indigenous populations, or the struggles of survival in harsh conditions. In many stories and historical accounts, this fear also extended to the possibility of failure in establishing a new life, whether due to resource shortages, disease, or isolation. If you're referencing something more specific, feel free to share more details, and I'd be happy to dive deeper!
@OlRustysgpl

Yes, as a historian whenever I study the colonial period, it appears that British colonists and soldiers fighting in wars whether in India,Burma or in Africa always seemed rather susceptible to malaria outbreaks. Some say colonists worsened it however I'm unsure. I know britain went as far as to physically drain swamps to prevent the outbreak of it but many colonists still got very sick. This occurred during the colonization of america however britain always appeared to have issues with it especially it southeast Asia and sub saharan African colonies. Many soldiers in both the boer war, ww1 and ww2 died of malaria many of which were british soldiers fighting in these areas defending the colonies.

Malaria can infect anyone, it affects certain populations because the mosquito that spreads the disease is only present in some parts of the world, notably Africa, South East Asia and South America.
