I helped build that place, it was so much fun. There's no building like it anywhere. Really humbling to be a part of this project.

Some Japanese wooden buildings have no nails. Can a mass timber building be built in the same manner or at least theoretically?
@brad4504 жыл бұрын
in theory yes, however I doubt any current building code would allow it. Interlocking joints still need to be mechanically attached

Check out Nur Holz Rombach . it makes clt panels with wooden dowels . however the panels must be connected with steel brackets and structural screws . very interesting site though , have a look

How does hold up over the effects of inclement weather conditions?
@siriosstar47892 жыл бұрын
Not well at all if left exposed . Clt construction in Europe installs insulation on the outside of the building and covers that with wood cladding or stucco . Clt is rarely if ver left to the elements .

That must be a pretty damn strong glue

Are we missing out on a benefit by not treating the lumber with oil/wax/stain? I see in your examples that the everything is stained, is that cosmetic?
@ubacow7109 Жыл бұрын
I'd imagine cost, labor, and designers choice, you can't necessarily take these factory engineered components and spend too much time treating or staining them, in addition a lot of designers just seem to like the organic look. If they were to stain or wax these on site it would take them forever to apply and dry. Not to mention you'd need more skilled labor and not every contractor or laborer is a decent woodworker.
@ryuuguu01 Жыл бұрын
@@ubacow7109 Could they be stained at the factory? That could save money and it would allow construction to proceed at the same rate, albeit with a delayed starting time.
@ubacow7109 Жыл бұрын
@@ryuuguu01 I'm pretty sure some companies do offer that, though I guess it's just not as common or popular of an option as if they were to be put outside the stain would just wear out poorly. At the sizes of these projects some companies prob just use use the actual lumber instead of a stained color.

Spectacular guys, the biggest challenge of all times fans, get in action, let's save the planet together, let's get smart, we have all technologies we need to create sustainable lifestyle, giving our planet more oxygen to breathe

Affordable housing 🏘 = Mini Apartment block [ 3 floors] + Mass timber [Column+Beams] + Cellar [ Car parking] + Foam concrete panels. No lift = less energy consumption. Solar roof = smart electricity grid. Spacious living = 1 family unit per 1 floor.
@ryuuguu01 Жыл бұрын
Also if you going for affordable housing you could standardize the units which would save a lot in design and engineering costs if a large number are built the same. The Same idea as Habitat 67 but with mass timber.

Wish you try to think also about new vertical gardens for old buildings, solutions how to convert them on to smog eaters, at least the big cities, what a great revolution this could be, only trying to imagine it. Maybe you find the solution how to create new panels, windows, walls or balconies that can work as new electrical power units to raise Buildings independent from the national system, that could be the biggest satisfaction ever, think about it.

Wishing you work also on Green coats, verticale gardens, how to convert each old building on to a planet's lung, neutralize pollution, let's get it straight, nobody will ever give up using cars airplanes and burning fuels, when even electrical power is based on burning coal. But building up new infrastructures as smog eaters might be the best solution. Basicly, the grand mother's cottage roses garden on skyscrapes dimension, can you imagine it? Even the Sun should stop to admire such a heavenly delight

India is facing these days devastating floods, we all know, the best anti landslides solutions are always the tree roots under ground, but if buildings could have the same roots to hold the hills from sliding away, think about it what a huge opportunity for creating jobs and local welfare. Mother Earth is weeping rivers of tears of pain due to this global warming, well, having high fever is not much fun, let's try to care about her a bit some more, you can do remarcable things guys, how l wish you do indeed

Awesome inspiration fans, if we could give anyone good reasons getting involved in smart investments, indeed, how to plant new trees or carrying on a bio research for smart vegetals, for new construction materials, for green buildings, for raising up smog eaters to neutralize pollution, giving our planet the chance to have oxygen and breathe happily, yeah, the biggest challenge of all times fans, anyone is important to get involved indeed, let's save our planet before we get fried all of us for good

Maybe this technology will help finally investors in bio green vegetals research of smog eaters, of new trees massive plantations, until any desert will be dismantled, including the American one, too much good sweet water is running down to the ocean, let's save the water now that we have the farming genius irigation solutions using drops dispenser pipelines, yeah, What a wonderful world this could be fans think about it

What's the point?
@illuminated24382 жыл бұрын
It looks awesome, is stronger than concrete or steel on per pound basis, and its use results in FAR less carbon emissions than building with either steel or concrete.
@bjornegan64212 жыл бұрын
@@illuminated2438 a lot of stuff is stronger than steel or concrete per pound, but that doesn't mean there is an advantage to using those materials. it is still weaker than steel and concrete per size, which is a consideration. why do you think carbon emissions are something worth considering? and if a liberal felt like it, they would just paint this as deforestation which has a greater 'carbon' impact than using other materials.
@ag908839 ай бұрын
It looks cool to build with. You can get the project done with smaller crews and equipment, according to the video. The builders actually like making them too since it's not as messy. The growing number of wildfires in the US due to our land being over-forrested with small diameter trees that can be used for mass timber building material. Bringing more of this type of industry would also revitalize small rural towns that have been struggling as our economy has shifted to high tech industries. Also surprisingly, mass timber holds up well against fires too, since it chars on the outside while keeping the internal core intact. There might be some downsides that we don't know about yet, but I think it would interesting see more of these projects. @@bjornegan6421
