I think so too. When I divide my best of 4 marks by 1st best subject, I get my merit index no. And I also think lower the index, the better. Coz index list (example Human Development Index) e #1 rank is considered the best.

@@syedamalsinaqayanat8208 na see that doesn't make sense. My friend scored 317/400 best of four and I scored 387/400 best of four but his merit index is 377 and mine is 387 so whose is better? Then again my index number didn't increase because 100 was divided and multiplied but in his case his 317 was divided by a much smaller number then multiplied by 100 which made the final index number 377... I think this system is absolutely flawed
