TCP/IP didn't 'win' the protocol war until about 2010, and once that happened -- MQTT took off.

Hi walker, you mentioned in this video around 7mins in, that mqtt 5 is backwards compatible with 3.1.1, but emq website is saying it is not... Could they be referring to something else?

I definitely say this wrong and we will correct it so there isn't confusion. I mean to say it this way: 1. MQTT 5 builds on MQTT 3, it's not a rebuild of the spec, it's an extension with new features 2. Brokers are not spec aware and many of the existing brokers have implemented many elements of 5 already and we didn't even know it While MQTT 5 isn't backwards compatible for developers, it will seem like it is for consumers. Nonetheless, this statement is confusing so we will pull it out or disclaimer it.

There´s no data dictionary for UDT standards , so can´t be compared with OPC Comp specs

What do you mean? Of course you can have a JSON object type as a UDT Member. You can even have full on Dataset tags, list tags, you name it.
