Is MVC totally different from the Web API? Or is it necessary to learn MVC after working with web APIs?

Mvc is just a way to structure your API such as that the logic, the data and the views are separated. I would suggest you learn how to structure your Web APIs following the MVC model since it's very popular and it makes your project more scalable.
