Hi Gail, sorry for the delay. Yes it is a safe procedure generally but because it is a bit more invasive we tend to get it only when an MRI isn’t possible or is inconclusive. Good luck!

Thank you for this great info. I have suffered with cervical spine issues for years. Recently had a neurology appt, had an MRI first, brought the disc in for the appt. PA would not look at the MRI but insisted on this very invasive test being done first. Why?? after seeing how invasive this test is, and NO anesthesia offered to adults (only kids) I am really upset about being asked to do this test. I have had a bad epidural experience in the past, have very high needle anxiety, and do not want to subject myself to this type of discomfort/pain if not 100% necessary. Not to mention I twitch often, so staying still will be a challenge! any advice? THanks so much for posting honest information.
