What has Governor Peter Mba been doing in Enugu since he became the Governor?
Enugu is the capital city of Enugu in south East Nigeria, the city derived its name from two Igbo words Enu and Ugwu which means Hilltop in english language.
Since the 17th century the location of present-day Enugu has been inhabited by the Enugwu-Ngwo and Nike subgroup of the Igbo people; In 1900, the Southern Nigeria Protectorate was established by the colonial administration of the British Empire. The discovery of coal by the colonists led to the creation of what was then known as the Enugu Coal Camp, named after the nearby village of Enugu Ngwo, under which coal was first found. The nearby city of Port Harcourt was created for the purpose of shipping this coal abroad, being located 243 kilometres (151 mi) south of the camp. Coal mining opportunities in Enugu attracted people from throughout the region; this marked the core of the first urban settlement of what is today known as simply Enugu. Enugu developed as one of the few cities in West Africa created entirely from European contact. By 1958 Enugu had over 8,000 coal miners. As of 2005 there are no significant coal mining activities left in the city.
Enugu became the capital of the Eastern Region after Nigeria's independence in 1960; a succession of territorial adjustments in 1967, 1976 and 1991 led to Enugu becoming the capital of what is now Enugu State. On 30 May 1967 Enugu was declared the capital of the short-lived Republic of Biafra; for this Enugu is known as the "capital of Igboland." After Enugu was captured by the Nigerian armed forces, the Biafran capital was moved to Umuahia.

@@innocentamaife4530 he doesn't want to prove any point. Go and read his manifesto before election. I've never seen any governor in Nigeria that campaigned like him. He went to CCRN Conference in Enugu during campaign, he was practically begging for their prayers. He said they should pray against the power of darkness that wants to stop the good thing that wants to come into Enugu and ended the 2 minute speech with OUR TOMORROW IS HERE. He has over 40 pages of the program he has for Enugu State. Which includes, revitalization of water within 180 days ad making Enugu one of the third biggest economy in Nigeria, the construction of the new Enugu city etc. He saw this Smart city in China and was motivated to build the same in Enugu and asked the same Chinese company to build similar thing in Enugu. He was prepared for the task. No other candidate even came close. Only Frank Nweke Jr. tried, especially on building Enugu economy but Perter Mbah said he will build Enugu State economy like he built his own compan from background. His Pinnacle oil is the leader in the downstream sector of oil industry, no oo company is even close.. Last year he was searching for investors all over the word, now investors are the ones searching for him. Over 400 billion naira investment have entered Enugu in a short period. He's the first governor in Nigeria to take control power distribution, now Enugu now have more stable power supply. He wants to build 500MW using PPP.

Ground Stability: Coal mining, especially deep mining or strip mining, can cause subsidence- where the ground above collapses or sinks. This poses a risk for large structures like skyscrapers, which require stable foundations. In areas where mining has occurred, extensive geological surveys and reinforcement may be needed to ensure the ground is safe for heavy construction.

Enugu is a coal mining area, for the fact that there's no backfilling of the underground holes made during coal mining; it's not possible to build heavy buildings, but more of light skyline can be constructed though pillars constitutes the heavy parts of a building which skylines (skyscrapers) are more of. These re some of the reasons I guessed why 3,4 n above storey buildings re not seen in a large number in Enugu Add a reply...

True! Ugwuanyi set the city backward by 8 years and he still wanted to make his younger brother who was Commisioner for environment governor. Environment that was so dirty, no new trees planted. The old trees were being cut down indiscriminately. They treated Enugu as if it's not their's. I never knew that a place like Idaw river have never had any asphalt road since creation of the area until Peter Mbah put smile on their faces. This is what Ugwuanyi should have done in continuation of Sullivan Chime's good deeds but he never did.

Poster, you didn't show us new projects, you're just talking, obviously, you're not in Enugu. It's glory not grory. Ugwuanyi came to grab lands and not to continue from where Sullivan stopped. He treeated Enugu as if it's not his city. There is a particular part of the state that sees themselves as strangers in Enugu. Anytime they become governor, it's always like that. They will abandon Enugu and face only their own regiion. Thank God, his Commisioner of dirty environment didn't take over from him. My Yoruba friend who visited me during Sullivan period and Ugwuanyi period complained bitterly about the dirtiness of Enugu, I felt ashamed when he kept saying Enugu has lost it's glory. Thank God for new dawn have done. Mbah is taking Enugu to a level mich higher than that of Sullivan. Apart from beautifying Enugu, he's aso creating more jobs and alleviating poverty by building Smart Green Schools. Thousands of fresh teachers will be employed. More workers will also be employed by Enugu water cooperation. The same with NEPA, Enugu power have improved, Enugu State now in charge of power distribution in the State. Very soon, a new power plant will be unveiled in Enugu State

Ugwuanyi was a disaster to Enugu state, am from Nsukka zone but I always call a spade a spade. Sullivan chime remains my man in terms of transformation and beautification that happened during his reign but ugwuanyi destroyed all his beautiful legacy in a twinkle of an eye there by taking Enugu state 16years backwards. He did practically nothing during his second tenure rather he was busy receiving different groups who came to collect huge envelopes with the ugly mantra called " thank you visit" every blessed day and ended up achieving nothing but billboard every corner of the state with his deceptive Enugu state is in the hands of God.
@LabaraNdonia

Yep. Nothing at all even in his first term. Under him, Enugu streets had no lane marks, no traffic signs, no speed limits, no pedestrian crossings, no direction signs, "no nothing", but his posters were everywhere in bill boards across the city with the potentially blasphemous, self-deifying mantra: Enugu state in the hands of God!

What is lacking in Enugu is skyscrapers to change its skyline. This is sad because the city has been a capital city of one type or another since its was founded. So the area now called smart city must be designated skyscraper zone and only buildings 15 storey and above should be permitted. Just look at the skyline Juba, the capital of South Sudan which was started recently and see that it can be done. Skyscrapers are meant to save land space. Some people complain about scarcity of land. But available spaces throughout Iboland is increasingly being used up by sprawling bungalows where a few high rise building will accommodate a lot of businesses and homes. My wish too. But surprisingly none of that appears to be the priority of anyone in power. Road marks, trees and flowers are so cheap and easy to implement, but still they won't do it despite having people employed to do it (e.g. highway maintenance team). This raises a disturbing question about black people and the way they live not just in Enugu but globally. Sad.
