I can't build shelves. I placed a wooden plank just like you showed, but that doesn't work. What could be the matter?

the recipe has changed, it now involves forms according to the game description

just use planks on the two staffs crossed thing and it will turn it into form wich you right click with a plank to get a shelf

Ah yeah, you are correct. This was back when I was still learning Nodecore, but still, I don't know why I only used leaves, lol. I still have a lot to learn. I hope that you are having a good day :)
