Since this was the basics, this is a separate note. If you are the AR, the signal is to hold the flag upright and wait. The center must determine if play should be stopped. In some cases, a goalkeeper will clear the ball away, kick it up field, or pick it up in the 18. If I expect the keeper will not be challenged, I'll play advantage. Some refs, in the pregame, will tell the ARs to hold the flag. If I play advantage and play reverses direction, I'll signal for you to lower the flag and go back to your normal position. If there is no signal from the center, the AR keeps holding that flag. If advantage isn't advisable, center blows the whistle. Now, the whistle has been blown. AR, wait a moment. It usually takes a couple seconds for players to recognize the reason for the whistle. By keeping the flag up, everyone sees the signal. Now, lower the flag to indicate where on the field the offside occurred, close, mid, far. When the ball is placed for the IDFK, AR now moves into proper position for the restart.

Wrong. The AR does not raise their flag when the player is simply in an offside position. This video should be redone.
