Robot philosopher? Seriously?? The IRONY of this is just mind blowing. The road to oligarchy leads through silicon valley, as AI replaces our artists, composers, NARRATORS, and builders, until an elite few billionaires and their armies of virtual robots make the average human obsolete.

The funny part is the means to deal with oligarchy have been around for over 2000 years it's the unification of church and state under an emperor or king as the justifications to crackdown on oligarchy and the means to do it are literally provided by God and centralized LEGITAMATE authority, until you get religion back in it's proper place no amount of secular cope will change anything unless your trying a fascist model but that ultimately goes right back to oligarchy once the dictator is dead as it's fundamentally based in material reductionism.

Awesome and informative. Gave me just what I was looking for right in the beginning, the etymology of Oligarchy. Probably one of the best surprises I’ve ever had in a KZbin video is at 3:16 with your eye-opening illustration of “Which Countries are Oligarchies?” It is rather provocative to see the US listed, but even more so, for whom the US shares this title with-three being America’s most contentious: China, Russia & Iran. Although, most “Main Street” Americans would scoff and disregard such assertions, I am reassured by seeing this-a critical viewpoint making its way out of academia. As we know, the first step to solving a problem is admitting the problem exists in the first place. Thank you

Actually China is different. In US, as you need huge money to run the election, it's the oligarchy with ruling class composed of rich class, while in China, it's the officials who was prompted step by step in his/her political career, this is the huge different. Most of western people cannot understand how important of this kind of different, because the WEST just was thinking in their narrow mindset.

Countries with parliaments are in fact oligarchies (few lead). In order to be a true democracy, the decisions of the Parliament should be submitted to the approval of the citizens. The democratic aspect is a side effect in societies where economies have a strong competitive aspect, where the interests of those who hold economic power in society are divergent. Thus, those with money, and implicitly with political power in society, are supervising each other so that none of them have undeserved advantages due to politics. Because of this, countries with large mineral resources, like Russia and Venezuela (their share in GDP is large), do not have democratic aspects, because a small group of people can exploit these resources in their own interest. In poor countries, the main resource exploited may even be the state budget, as they have converging interests in benefiting, in their own interest, from this resource. This is what is observed in Romania, Bulgaria, when, no matter which party comes to power, the result is the same. The solution is modern direct democracy in which every citizen can vote, whenever he wants, over the head of the parliamentarian who represents him. He can even dismiss him if most of his constituents consider that their interests are not right represented

Where are you getting the justification that we OUGHT to be a democracy? An appeal to consensus via arbitrariness is logically retarded. Your better off going back to the Roman Imperial model of Emperors and Bishops with a logically concise reason for why power is centralized that's actually backed up by metaphysical arguments with sound theology to unite the masses against corruption. Say what you want about how cruel Kings can be at the end of the day they die and get replaced and the empire lives on so long as the people remain true to their religious unity.

Where in Wealthy people live together with wealthy ones and doesn't communicate with the lows and the lowest.

Why is President Trump there? He’s never been a politician? Maybe the politicians that have been in power for more than 30+ years are a better example? Pelosi, Schumer, just to name a few and keep being in power…??
