In Finnish medical journal for physicians (Lääkärilehti 35 /2021 vsk 76 pp. 1813-1818) there was an article about MRSA in pigs. 77% of Finnish pigs were MRSA carriers year 2017, and there were 7 different phenotypes of antibiotic resistance. AR is spreading to humans who live nearby pig farms. Suggested solution: 1) Education of workers of pig industry how to use protective clothing etc. 2) Development of "Hygiene passport" which would be demanded in order to work in pig industry. 3) MRSA -screening of people who work in pig farms, when they need admission to hospital care. Year 2016 MRSA phenotype CC398 added human health care cost 7 320 000 euros in Denmark. Additional cost in Sweden and in Finland is assessed to be around 1 milj. euros year 2011, ten years ago. Since then MRSA -numbers of pigs have tripled (2017). The antibiotic resistance problem was mentioned to arise also from other animal farms, too as well as in slaughterhouses. There was no suggestion to eliminate the root cause of the problem. The same reductionistic approach is abundant in conventional evidence based medicine as well. We just try to manage symptoms of problems, which greedy governments and industries keep on financing. Antibiotics are avoided, therefore Finnish pork flesh is claimed to be "pure". All the other routines (inseminations, castrations without any anesthesia, CO2 -suffocation etc.) are just the same as in UK. Few people know that sows are taken away from their piglets 3-4 weeks after birth, tits packed with unsuck milk then. This happens also in organic farming. I was educated by a former pig farmer about this. He said sows moan in pain and sorrow for 7-8 days. Want to see "high quality" Finnish animal agriculture?
