Great video, I've never caught it before. I've got a 40 year old Glow-worm fanned boiler on F&E . Well most of it's 40 years old! It can't go on for ever but at the moment....... The mechanical room 'stat was never that good. I've replaced it with one with TPI and it has an electronic temp sensor. Wow! What a difference, I should have done it years ago. 😊

Hi pal I know I'm years behind lol, I currently have an evohome set up, but I don't have the open therm bridge just yet, does open firm work well if I have 8 zones?
@kevinleesmith2 жыл бұрын
1) Does a modulating boiler only modulate down the burner, or does it also modulate the rad pump flow rate? 2) is the modulation power (kw) set by the opentherm stat or is the flow temp set by an opentherm stat and then the boiler chooses the appropriate kW? 3) if I use a weather compensating control like a google nest, does that automatically set the boiler output or does it set the flow temperature?

Great video. Just one detail missing - at 6:05 you mention that Worcester boilers don't natively speak OpenTherm, but didn't mention that it's possible to buy the Worcester EasyControl Adapter which converts EMS to OpenTherm.

I got myself a Drayton Wiser smart heating system but it won't talk to my Vaillant boiler. Found a module from AWB that translate from opentherm and Ebus. Hopefully it will work...

Hey Julian, thanks for your feedback, I have quite a fair bit of content planned which is starting from basic tips for non technical people and then move onto the more advanced stuff further down the line. Compatibility with different boilers and systems varies so could be a big video but I'll definitely put it on the planned list for the future. Thanks for watching, don't forget to hit subscribe

I have a new Viessmann 100 combi and Nest 3 gen, wired open therm. Boiler controls are therefore taken over by the Nest so cannot control the DHW preheat on the boiler. I want to turn this off, especially when away from home, but no option on the app or Nest control. I turn the CH off on the app there is not the same option for the DHW but not a problem if no water drawn off but the pre heat is the problem as I assume it continues to operate. Any suggestions, really like the videos but having watched many I see no mention of this problem?

Hi there. Great video and well explained. We are in the process of buying a flat that has a Baxi Duo-Tech 24 HE Condensing boiler with an old looking thermostat. I'm thinking of upgrading to Drayton Wiser system with Smart TRVs that can trigger the boiler from the TRVs as well. -Does my boiler do OpenTherm? -If not os it worth to upgrade to the Wiser or is it just going to run the boiler 24/7 on full blast becase some of the rooms require heat? -Can an adapter or a PCB upgrade from a newer model add the OpenTherm function to the boiler?

this video is brilliant thank you for this, really cool good man. Just in the process of install Nest 3rd Gen on all my rentals and I'm pretty sure that i won't be able to use OT in some of the nimbi I have as too old (10yrs Ariston Microgeius 28 HE etc) but I have a veissman 100 and a couple more that I think it can work. Q: if I may, is the wiring in the motherboard of he boiler the same I assume, correct? The difference is in the Nest (OT1 and OT2) correct? Thank you again for your time
@jamie-theheatingguy48702 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I’m glad you liked the video. The Viessmann should work perfectly but you might need to buy an additional piece of wiring. Best refer to the manufacturer’s instructions or speak to a local heating engineer 😊

Is there any chance I'll void my boiler's warranty if I connect an OpenTherm device (such as Nest Heat Link) myself? Or should I hire a professional to do it? I asked the installer and he knew nothing about how to connect a Nest controller. I'm sure I can find somebody, but there are also instructions on doing myself. I just don't want to risk voiding the warranty. Thanks in advance!

Hi there. I have a viessman 100 and nest setup for opentherm. The nest lets you set 'supply temperature' in the equipment settings. Do you know what the best setting for this is with gas and radiators?
@Hydroheat4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ali, well in theory the supply temperature should automatically adjust according to heat required by the thermostat. Depending on if it's been set up correctly.

You aware that tado have basically reverse-engineered the proprietary digital control standards that Worcester Bosch and Valiant use on most of their boilers? You need to check compatibility with them, but there's a good chance you've got another good digital control option even if your boiler doesn't have Opentherm (which tado also supports).
@Hydroheat4 жыл бұрын
Yes I've heard some good things about Tado but I believe they've made some changes to their digital interface that I'm not too excited about. Need to learn more about this though. 😊 Thanks for sharing

Great video, very few people are covering this, wish I knew more before connecting my Nests. I have a vaillant so i think I need an adapter from ebus anyway. Are you planning on doing any more videos on connecting Nest with opentherm. Also, when using a wiring centre to control multiple hearing zones, do they generally have the connections to receive/transmit opentherm signals ?

Works great unless you've got 6 Girls and a wife all using the shower at different times of the day. Totally ruins any curve

Hi Paul, can you explain in which way it's affecting the curve? Is it because the heating is turned off when they are in the shower?

@@Hydroheat i believe he has a condensation boiler. I have one and stops heating the radiators when it's heating water at the taps. Stupid design 😑
@Hydroheat4 жыл бұрын
@@adyandrey23andrey I believe you're right, he has a combi boiler which shuts off the heating when the hot water is being used. But I can't see it affecting the curve too much, maybe a bit when the sensor is asking for heat and not getting it, it may then send the message to ramp up, so when it switches back to heating the boiler will want to heat the heating system to a higher temp. This would be rectified pretty quickly one the boiler recognises that it's getting the heat it's asking for. But I'm interested to learn more if he's having a different experience
@adyandrey23andrey4 жыл бұрын
@@Hydroheat Our bpiler has kind of the same behaviour as his. I have a question for you, since you know much more than I can find on google. Do you think the new Wyze thermostat is going to work with a Buderus Logamax Plus V2? It does support OpenTherm, so basically any smart thermostat should work with it, right?
@mgbroadsterJ3 жыл бұрын
Weather comp runs at much lower temps . Less expansion and a much cleaner boiler ,plus less cycling .
